Job Details The Medical Technologist performs a variety of routine and special clinical laboratory examinations and procedures in the specialties or subspecialties for which they are qualified, which may include, but is not limited to, the Hematology, Chemistry, Blood Bank, Serology, Coagulation, Urinalysis and Phlebotomy departments. The Medical Technologist exercises independent judgment and responsibility to provide data for the diagnosis, prevention or the treatment of disease or assessment of a medical condition. The Medical Technologist must possess competency in one or two of the major sections of the laboratory (Blood Bank, Hematology, and Chemistry). Responsibilities: Establishes/monitors the department's quality control policies and ensures documentation of all quality control activities, instrument, and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed. Ensures that departmental supplies are stocked and well maintained. Correlates laboratory methods, procedures, and patient test results with age-specific population criteria and demonstrates appropriate understanding of the needs of patients and visitors for each specific age group. Addresses safety and psychological needs in planning or delivering care Establishes and implements service priorities, workflow patterns; monitors workflow to assure prompt and efficient delivery of services. Demonstrates the ability to evaluate departmental performance and recommends measures to improve services and quality of current methodologies. Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or related science from an accredited school Licensed under the NYS Dept. of Education as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist Knowledge of hematology, chemistry, blood ban, and/or microbiology preferred Hospital experience desired Must work weekends and holidays as scheduled Good oral and written communication skills essential. Salary Range USD $49.87 - USD $63.00 /Hr. This range serves as a good faith estimate and actual pay will encompass a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience. The salary range or rate listed does not include any bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation that may be applicable to this job and it does not include the value of benefits.
