McLaren Health Care Supervisor House Registered Nurse - McLaren Careers in Port Huron, Michigan

Position Summary:

Responsible for supervising, coordinating, and participating in the delivery of nursing care for all patient care units following hospital policies and procedures, nursing process guidelines, standards of care, and standards of practice. In accordance with clinical standards and guidelines, coordinates the placement of elective and emergent admissions and transfers.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  1. Supports the mission and vision of McLaren Port Huron through behaviors that reflect and integrate our values, as evidenced by observation, peer and customer feedback.

  2. Ensures efficient administration of nursing services and quality of care.

  3. Coordinates, with other health team members, patient placement and delivery of patient care with final decision-making responsibility.

  4. Identifies and evaluates bed availability in patient care departments by super census review and continuous rounding.

  5. Communicates and coordinates with the managers, coordinators, contact nurses to ensure that all shifts have standardized admission, discharge, and transfer procedures.

  6. Initiates new concepts, approaches, and procedures in the placement of patients to facilitate their admission process.

  7. Conducts rounds on patients and families waiting for beds in ER and PACU and communicates bed placement plan.

  8. Coordinates and facilitates morning report to Patient Care Services Manager of Nursing Support or Utilization Review/Patient Placement Coordinator.

  9. Initiates continuous communication with Scheduling Office staff.

  10. Communicates with ER and PACU frequently to prevent a back up of admissions and to put into place process that might stop a backlog.

  11. Participates in the evaluation of the metrics and communicates the information to the appropriate people.

  12. Acts as a resource person and provides support and direction to patient care units. Participates in delivery of patient care.

  13. Provides input into personnel issues including hiring, disciplining, appraising, and terminating employees.

  14. Seeks to improve quality of service by continuously developing individual competencies within scope of practice.

  15. Serves as administrative representative in the absence of administration.

  16. Coordinates weekend staffing for units.

  17. Demonstrates a commitment to continued self-growth and maintenance of competency.

  18. Performs other related duties as required and directed.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • BSNorenrolled in a BSN program with an approved education plan,orrelated degree and comparable experience

  • Five (5) years comprehensive clinical experience in target care types and recent acute care experience

  • ACRN experience

  • Utilization Management knowledge in addition to health care regulatory and managed care environments

  • Current RN license in the State of Michigan

  1. Thorough knowledge of Nursing Standards of Practice and Standards of Patient Care.

  2. Thorough knowledge of hospital and departmental operations, policies, and procedures.

  3. Demonstrates the ability to evaluate individualized patient care plans and standards of care for the patient population served.

  4. Enhances individual professional growth and development through evaluation of self and employee educational needs; participation in educational programs, in-service meetings, workshops, and by reading current literature concerning scope of practice.

  5. Demonstrates diverse clinical knowledge regarding patient care needs.

  6. Understands and knows the scope of service of each patient care unit.

  7. Maintains professional licensure, certifications, and clinical competencies as required by hospital.
