WSP USA IWC Planner in Port Hope, Ontario

The Opportunity:

WSP is seeking an IWC Planner to work on the Port Hope Area Initiative. The Integrated Work Control (IWC) Planner is considered a key position within the IWC Program and will be responsible for the coordination of work activities as well as the development of Work Control Packages (WCP).

This opportunity is to join the WSP team responsible for the execution and construction of the Port Hope Area Initiative (PHAI) . The PHAI represents the federal government’s response to the community-requested solution for the cleanup and local, long-term, safe management of historic low-level radioactive waste in the municipalities of Port Hope and Clarington.

Please note we will consider candidates based in various locations throughout Canada, but this opportunity is based at the project site in Port Hope, Ontario

A day in the life:

  • Assist in the development/refinement of a scope of work for each discrete WCP;

  • Assist managers in determining the WCP planning level based on activity complexity and/or hazards associated with the scope of work;

  • Assist in the selection of planning team members, including worker representatives and Subject Matter Experts (SME);

  • Lead the planning and development of Job Hazard Analysis;

  • Perform walk-downs/roundtables to identify hazard and assist in the hazard control selection;

  • Engaging Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to assemble all governing documents applicable to the work (i.e. permits, regulatory documents and requirements, design drawings and specifications…);

  • Coordinate and publish Plan of the Day (POD) or Plan of the Week (POW) used to authorize the work activities;

  • Support the Job Supervisor in coordinating Post Job Reviews to collect feedback and lessons learned for process improvement;

  • Maintain IWC files to include WCPs, PODs/POWs and Lessons Learned;

  • Planner may spend up 50% of their time in the field.

Planner may be required to enter high hazard facilities, hazardous waste sites, and areas where chemical, biological and physical hazards may be present.

What you'll bring to WSP ...

  • Degree or Diploma in Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.

  • Three (3) years' planning experience, or a combination of education and industry experience.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools, such as Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.

  • Effective 2-way communicator, comfortable with presentation of H&S presentations and able to build strong working relationships with peers.

  • Must be able to work and deliver in a fast-paced team-oriented environment.

  • Good attention to detail, with the ability to recognize discrepancies.

  • Must be capable of wearing all required PPE&C, including respirators, if required.

  • Eligible for Reliability security clearance (individual must have 3 full years of verifiable history in Canada, USA, UK, New Zealand and/or Australia).
