Great Lakes Academy School Social Worker 24/25 School Year in Pontiac, Michigan

Great Lakes Academy is hiring a *School Social Worker *for the 2024-2025 school year to join the team. Must have SSW license. 

Great Lakes Academy is a K - 8th grade public charter school located in Pontiac. The academy has been serving the community for more than 20 years. Great Lakes Academy is built around the shared vision of educating children in a safe and nurturing environment.  We are committed to giving every student the opportunity to be responsible for their academic success!

The School Social Worker will provide comprehensive social work services to students, families, and staff in a school setting. They will work collaboratively with school personnel to identify and address social, emotional, and behavioral issues that impact student success.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct services to students, such as counseling, crisis intervention, and group work

  • Conduct assessments and develop intervention plans for students with social, emotional, and behavioral needs

  • Collaborate with school personnel to develop and implement programs that promote positive school climate and student success

  • Consult with teachers, parents, and community agencies to address student needs and concerns

  • Provide support and education to families on a variety of issues, including parenting skills, communication, and community resources

  • Maintain accurate and timely records of services provided and student progress

  • Participate in school-based teams and committees to address student needs and promote school-wide initiatives

  • Stay current on best practices and trends in school social work and related fields

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in social work from an accredited program

  • Valid state licensure as a school social worker

  • Temporary or full approval as a social worker

  • Experience working with children and families in a school setting

  • Knowledge of social, emotional, and behavioral issues that impact student success

  • Ability to work collaboratively with school personnel, families, and community agencies

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards

  • Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
