Job Description

Transportation Director Intern

Reports to: Executive Director of Operations

Supervises: All Transportation Department Employees

Qualifications: High School Diploma or Equivalent

Valid CDL with Passenger and Air Brake Endorsement

State of Oklahoma School Bus Driving Certificate

At least (1) Year Experience in General Transportation

Job Goal: Oversee the districts transportation programs and services within the

districts budget

Employment Terms: 12 Month Contract

Generally - 7:30 A.M. 4:30 P.M., exclusive of a (1) hour lunch to

accommodate transportation office hours and supervision of

personnel

FLSA Classification: Exempt

Evaluation: Annually by Executive Director of Operations

Physical Demands: This is an overview intended for compliance with the ADA it is not an

essential functions of a specific position.

Regular Requirements: Sit for extended periods; twist at the neck and

trunk; bend and reach at, below and above shoulder level, repetitive

use of fingers and hands to grasp and/or operate equipment;

lift/move up to 25 pounds

Occasional Requirements: Walk, reach with hands and arms

overhead, above shoulder and horizontally; lift/move up to 40 pounds

Visual Requirements: Close, distance, color, peripheral, depth

perception, ability to adjust focus

Hearing/Speaking Requirements: Adequate to exchange information

Ponca City Public Schools Job Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Provides leadership in the development and evaluation of the districts

transportation services, including planning, compliance, safety procedures,

monitoring, drug-testing, personnel, and budgeting.

2. Works with school staff, parents, and other professionals to resolve

transportation concerns and problems.

3. Ensures that district transportation files and records are in compliance with all

State and Federal Laws governing student transportation.

4. Establishes annual bus routes.

5. Oversees the diagnosis and repair of district autos and busses.

6. Maintains records of all repairs and maintenance performed on district

vehicles.

7. Maintains the districts inventory of supplies, equipment, fuel and any other

items required for the smooth operation of the bus shop.

8. Sets and maintains high standards of safety and good housekeeping methods

throughout the bus shop.

9. Schedules substitute bus and activity drivers as needed.

10. Drives as a substitute in the event another individual cannot be located for this

task.

11. Investigates any/all accidents involving district vehicles.

12. Develops and maintains lists of children eligible for transportation.

13. Ensures bus stops are in safe locations.

14. Approves field trips.

15. Recruits, interviews, checks background and recommends for employment

bus drivers, sub and aide drivers.

16. Periodically checks the driving records of all bus drivers in order to assure

student safety.

17. Conducts driver education in-service and safety training for Transportation

personnel.

18. Keeps records for preparation of state and local reports such as inventories,

pupils transported, route mileage, time records, special trip records, traffic

accidents, and other required reports.

19. Interprets transportation procedures and regulations to public and staff.

20. Follows State and Federal guidelines concerning bus equipment and

procedures.

21. Schedules and correlates activity trips along with various shuttle routes,

regular, and special education routes.

22. Maintains records and completes reports s required by law: state

department, school board, drug/alcohol testing, etc.

23. Supervises and evaluates transportation personnel.

24. To ensure continuity of services, remote work may be necessary in the event

of a health crisis or disruptive situation that requires the closing of school

and/or office buildings. An employees eligibility for remote work will be

determined by the superintendent of schools. Expectations and guidelines for

remote work will be distributed by the employees supervisor, based on

his/her role and responsibilities.

25. Performs all other tasks as supervisor may assign.
