About the position As a Design Drafter, you will be responsible for taking conceptual ideas and creating formal drawings using knowledge of design technology, materials, and fabrication while performing quality checks and prioritizing/balancing multiple projects. The Design Drafter will manage specific assigned portions of projects from inception through completion and job turnover. Day in the life * Develops drawings for electrical systems including schematics, point to point diagrams, single line diagrams, cable tabulations, logic diagrams and full electrical designs from concept to construction drawings. * Converts verbal or written documents or sketches from engineers and project managers to schematic project documents. Uses basic drafting tools to prepare design layouts, participates in design reviews, modifies existing design documentation, and incorporates basic design changes. * Organizes details of construction drawings with guidance from management. Coordinates and supports delivery of electronic project files with various internal partners as needed. Supports other project team members in all aspects of project design. Coordinates deliverables according to project deadlines. * Interfaces with team and other groups as required to resolve questions concerning issues or other troubleshooting needs. Performs engineering support tasks under general supervision. Demonstrates the ability to see where process or component changes may need to be modified. * Performs quality control reviews of plotted drawings and electronic files for all project work produced by the team and ensures adherence to department design standards and project parameters. * Maintains established and newly created technical standards as they relate to assigned functions. * Prepares deliverables such as materials, cost and timing estimates, reports, and documentation. * Collaborates with internal departments, such as project management, manufacturing, and engineering, in conjunction with external partners. Builds effective relationships with customers, design team, specialty contractors, suppliers and user groups that reflect and support the Company's core values and meet or exceed the customer's expectations. Provides mentoring and training to co-workers as needed. Minimum Qualifications * Associate degree or equivalent work experience in engineering, electrical drafting, or a related field. Bachelor's degree preferred. * Minimum 1-2 years of relevant design/drafting experience and experience in the electrical controls industry requi ed for Controls group. AutoCAD Electrical Certification preferred. * Proficiency in using AutoCAD, Revit, MS Windows operating system, and the ability to integrate Excel, Word, Visio, Adobe Creative Suite, graphics, and photographs into other documents. Knowledge of industry practices and standards used in drafting modeling, and design development/revision. * Skills to read, interpret and understand electrical contracts, plans, drawings, and specifications and basic knowledge of the National Electrical Code preferred. Knowledge and experience with specific state and city codes may be required. * Basic project management training, experience, and skills. Understanding of the project life cycle. * Strong critical thinking, problem solving, time management, organizational skills, and detail orientation. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong collaboration, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
