Rise Modular, LLC (Rise) is a leading technology company that manufactures volumetric modular units for inclusion in multi-family, hospitality, and other commercial projects. Its headquarters are in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

 

DESCRIPTION

The Controller plays a significant role in protecting Rise’s financial assets and maximizing returns on its projects.  The role oversees accounting for the manufacturing and construction divisions and is responsible for (a) establishing and maintaining financial policies, procedures, and controls; (b) protecting major assets and managing liabilities; (c) managing financial systems; (d) driving month-end close and financial reporting; and (e) applying GAAP principles appropriately.  Personnel duties include supervising project accountants and interacting with Rise leaders and financial partners.  Note: This role requires on-site presence at least 4-days per week to maximize face-to-face collaboration. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Financial Reporting :  Produce accurate and timely reports on a monthly and annual basis per GAAP.  Also assist in the consolidation of the financials with other Rise entities.  

     

  • Job Costing :  Oversee accounting for Rise projects from commencement to completion for off-site and/or in-plant activities. Ensure that jobs capture all costs related to labor, materials, inventory and overhead.  Manage WIP activity and ensure COGS is properly recorded on a percentage completion method.  

     

  • Revenue & Profit Recognition : Ensure that revenue for projects is properly recognized per percentage completion method. Prepare and review profit recognition monthly.   

     

  • Cash Management :  Provide input on Rise’s cash forecast, factoring in project profitability, financing sources, capital expenditures, liabilities and overhead expenses.  Review all cash reconciliations monthly.  

     

  • Inventory : Partner with Plant Controller and COO to ensure inventory is valued accurately and timely.  

  • Fixed Assets : Review fixed asset schedule and record depreciation related to plant building, equipment, and personal property.    

     

  • Budgeting : Facilitate the preparation of the annual financial budget and project budgets.  Review and monitor actuals to budget on a regular basis and communicate/alert Rise leaders of variances to budget.  

     

  • Account Analysis :  Oversee and analyze account transactions/trends and present operational dashboards for cash, receivables, payables, WIP, etc.  

     

  • Internal Controls :  Establish and enforce financial policies and procedures, esp. for cash, inventory and fixed assets.  Enforce security policies to safeguard operations and maintain confidentiality of financial information/plans.  

     

  • Compliance : Ensure compliance with third party covenants and conditions.  Also facilitate preparation of annual tax returns, sales & use tax returns and annual reviews/audits, as necessary.   

     

  • Insurance : Assist Rise leaders with business insurance and annual renewal process.  

     

  • Supervision :  Foster a cohesive and collaborative work environment. Manage and mentor accounting team members.  

     

  • Internal Relationships : Partner with (a) Rise operations leaders/members to improve customer service and profitability of projects; and (b) Rise C-Suite to improve growth and profitability.  

     

  • External Relationships : Develop and maintain strong relationships with customers and vendors, including general contractors and subcontractors, related to payments, schedule, payment applications, change orders and administration.  

     

  • Champion of Financial Systems :  Act as the champion / expert on all financial-related systems, including ERP, inventory management, construction software, etc.  

     

  • Special Projects : As necessary, strategize and execute special projects to improve efficiency, streamline processes and implement new technologies, as needed.   

    MUST HAVE QUALIFICATIONS

     

  • BA or BS in Accounting or Finance  

  • Minimum 5 years of experience as controller

  • Construction or manufacturing experience

  • Mentoring and people development skills  

  • Excellent organization skills  

  • Strong verbal and written communicator

  • Proficiency with Excel, Word, Outlook and Adobe PDF  

  • Positive attitude   

  • Flexible on job responsibilities  

  • Ability to work in fast paced environment  

  • ERP systems, esp. EPICOR  

  • Promoter of a paperless environment

    STRONGLY PREFERRED

  • Inventory management & accounting experience

  • CPA

  • Procore software experience

  • QuickBooks experience

    SALARY RANGE  

  • $150K to $160K
