Job Description:

Apex Systems is currently seeking an experience RPG Programmer (IBM iSeries) for a consulting role for our client based in Horsham, PA. Consultant will need to be available to work on-site initially and the local enough for coming on-site as necessary. Our client has existing systems that need to be maintained and would like to also explore automation or outright migrating some of the applications to different technologies. We will be looking for the RPG Programmer Consultant to make recommendations as to the future of these applications. Responsibilities

  • Perform programming assignments requiring knowledge of established programming procedures and data processing requirements.
  • Maintain and modify programs; make approved changes by developing detailed programming logic and coding.
  • Test and develop modifications.
  • Write new program code per user needs.
  • Evaluate simple interrelationships between programs, e.g. whether a contemplated change in one part of a program would cause unwanted results in a related part.
  • Confer with users to gain understanding of needed changes or modifications of existing programs.
  • Provide on call support.
  • Use judgement in determining best solutions to problem solving, database design and changes, system modifications and hardware and software selection.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in computer science or related field.
  • 7+ years of RPG iSeries experience including experience with programming skills with RPG languages or RPG II/III/IV/ILE.
  • Excellent programming skills on the iSeries platform - Analyze and Create new programs using RPG, RPG ILE, SQLRPGLE, and Control Language (CLP/CLLE).
  • Very good knowledge of SQL concepts - Analyze and modify complex SQL queries, embedded SQL in SQLRPGLE, Cursor programming.
  • Database Concepts - Create and Analyze Physical files, Logical Files, SQL tables, Indexes, Views, Stored procedures.
  • Experience with one or more object-oriented languages such as Java/C/C++.
  • Knowledge of current technological developments/trends in area of expertise.
  • Ability to implement and troubleshoot programming changes and modifications.
  • Ability to determine computer problems and coordinate hardware and/or software solutions.
