Job Description:

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Assists in the preparation of irrigation, intravenous admixture solutions, and other, using aseptic technique. (must be able to perform repetitive hand motions for IV Room assignments and prepacking.)

  • Fills unit dose, Automated Dispensing Machines (ADM), stock requisitions and maintain inventory levels in OR, Endo & OB.

  • Delivers unit dose, ADM refills, intravenous solution and necessary pharmaceutical supplies to the nursing units. (must be able to walk and/or stand for assigned shift)

  • Fills medication labels, subject to final check by a pharmacist.

  • Prepares pre-packaged medications in commonly used quantities.

  • Assists with inventory control of supplies and medications. Receives and shelves supplies and medications. Performs cycle counts and monthly review of stock for expired medications.

  • Cleans pharmacy equipment, utensils and work areas.

Education/Experience Required:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older

  • Must have passed Board of Pharmacy Technician Registration exam; all requirements of Pharmacy Technician Trainee

  • Must know basic IV admixture processes as well as sterile procedures.

  • Must have good math, computer and communication skills.

  • Must have clear understanding of medication names (brand and generic), common dosing and sig codes, and medical terminology.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

Registration/Certification:

  • Must be registered by the Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy as a Technician

  • Must be certified by the PTCB (Pharmacy Technician Certification Board). If not certified, must obtain certification within 90 days of start.

  • Must maintain license from Board of Pharmacy and continuing education requirements for PTCB.
