Job Description:

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of the registered nurse and physician, delivers clinical assistance to patients within the outpatient clinic.

  • Reviews and prepares medical record prior to clinic start. Ensures all recent laboratory, consult and ancillary reports are present in the record.

  • Escorts patients into the exam area. Prepares patient for the physical exam.

  • Maintains optimal flow of patients for efficiency of practice.

  • Takes and records routine vital signs, heights, weights. Obtains and documents limited patient history and present symptoms.

  • Assists the physician/provider with treatment and procedures as directed.

  • Obtains,labels and sends patient specimens as ordered.

  • Ensures accurate coding for visits and procedures performed.

  • Assists nursing staff in the treatment rooms as directed. May be required to perform direct patient care, i.e., assist with physical care, vital signs, patient monitoring, specimen retrieval.

  • Carries out other tasks as directed by the Clinical Leader, Charge Nurse, or Director.

  • Assists in data entry.

  • Organize, store and refill medical supplies in exam/treatment areas.

  • Maintain, and adhere to all Jordan Hospital, OSHA, CLIA, and government regulations.

  • Transports patients to other setting as directed.

  • Assists receptionists with telephone management, visitor assistance, etc.

  • Schedules patient appointments in unit and with other departments or physicians.

  • Copies appropriate records and distributes them.

  • Files records as directed.

  • Performs all tasks in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.

  • Creates and maintains an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the unit.

Experience/Knowledge/Skills Required

  • Knowledge of medical terminology required

  • Ability to organize.

  • Knowledge of computer programs, systems.

  • Demonstrated communication skills, verbal and written.

  • 1-2 years experience in a medical office preferred.

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Medical Assistance required

Education Required

  • Written and verbal English skills at 12th grade level.

Registration/Certification

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Medical Assistance required

  • Medical Assistant certification preferred

  • BLS required

Exposure Risk: Exposure risk to bodily fluids is high

Physical/Environmental Requirements

This job requires frequent bending, carrying, pulling, pushing, reaching, standing, stooping, walking and lifting over 10 lbs. There will be occasional need for climbing stairs, lifting in excess of 50 – 100 lbs and sitting. Constant use of hearing, sight and speech. Frequent use of smell and touch. Frequent keyboard and telephone use. Constant concentration and problem solving.
