Technician (Intermediate), HVAC Safety

Intertek, a Nationally Recognized Testing Lab (NRTL) and leading provider of ATIC (Assurance, Testing, Inspection, and Certification) Services to many of the world’s leading brands and companies, is actively seeking a mid-level Technician, HVAC Safety to join our Electrical team in Plano, TX. What are we looking for?

This mid-level Technician position will support the Electrical business by setting up and performing a variety of tests on HVAC appliances for safety certification.  This Technician position requires intermediate experience to perform these tests in both the laboratory as well as field environment.  We’re looking for technically competent individuals who will follow and enforce all safety requirements/company policies and provide exceptional customer service.

About the Team

Intertek's Electrical business line applies product testing expertise quickly and efficiently to help clients meet safety, performance, environmental and quality requirements for every market they wish to enter. Our Electrical team provides assurance, testing, inspection, and certification for a variety of electric products, including appliances, consumer electronics, lighting, medical devices, information communications technology, HVACR, industrial, and energy transmission and distribution.

What you'll do

  • Set up test, test equipment and test apparatus.

  • Prepare test samples.

  • Ensure samples and test set ups have proper signage and are properly marked.

  • Obtain and record test data in accordance with standards.

  • Perform basic analysis of test data and routine calculations.

  • May make recommendations regarding technical decisions.

  • May draft technical reports.

  • Responsible for timely completion of reports.

  • May communicate with clients/engineering/management regularly.

  • Follow all safety requirements. 

  • Participate in 5S and housekeeping programs.

  • Maintain HVAC test equipment ensuring equipment is sent out for calibration and received and stored correctly.

  • Technicians in this position should be able to perform testing when given a test packet with little to no assistance.

  • Perform other work as required.

What it takes to be successful in this role:

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.

  • 3+ years HVAC and/or electrical testing experience.

  • Brazing/fabricating experience.

  • Technical competency to understand and communicate test procedures, specifications, and results and possess a mechanical aptitude.

  • General construction/carpentry knowledge and experience using power tools.

  • Physical ability to sit, stand, crouch, bend, climb stairs and ladders, crawl, push, pull, etc. as required to perform job duties.

  • Physical ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

  • Ability to follow directions and work with minimal supervision.

  • Excellent customer service skills

  • Strong communication skills – both written and oral

  • Good computer skills using Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat

  • Must be detail-oriented and able to effectively prioritize and organize workload, with efficient time management.

  • Must be customer focused and quality driven.

  • Ability to travel as business needs dictate, up to 25%

  • A valid driver's license and reliable driving record is required.

Preferred Qualification and Requirements

  • Powered industrial equipment certified (forklift)
