Golden Years Homemakers and Companions Personal Care Assistant - PCA in Plainville, Connecticut

Position Summary:

Provides personal care and homemaker/companion services under the direction of the Care Coordinator/Care Coordinating Supervisor.

The Personal care attendant is assigned to specific clients by Care Coordinator and performs services for clients as necessary to maintain their personal comfort.

Essential Functions:

  1. Performs household services essential to health care at home, including but not limited to:

``` 1. Meal preparation/feeding 2. Laundry 3. Light housekeeping 4. Remind patients to take medications that are ordinarily self-administered under the direction and supervision of patient and/or family members

``` 2. Performs personal care activities, including but not limited to:

``` 1. Bathing 2. Shampooing 3. Skin care/nail care 4. Oral hygiene 5. Shaving 6. Dressing

``` 3. Performs routine housekeeping duties including but not limited to: 1. Laundry 2. Changing of bed linens 3. Vacuuming/dusting 4. Grocery shopping, errands 5. Accompanies patient to scheduled appointments and social activities 4. Reports any observed or reported changes in the client's condition and/or needs to the Care Coordinator. 5. Documents care provided and completes the forms required for the client's records. Completes the appropriate records to document care given and pertinent observations. 6. Promotes personal safety and a safe environment for clients by observing infection control practices, following Agency guidelines, and reporting unsafe situations to the Care Coordinator. 7. Demonstrates safe practice in the use of equipment. Does not use equipment until orientation about its operation has been provided. Notifies supervisor of educational needs. 8. Communicates effectively with all members of the agency staff through verbal reports, participation in staff meetings, and team conferences, as requested. 9. Maintains confidentiality in all aspects of the job. 10. Successfully completes annual skills competency validation. 11. Attends in-service programs to meet compliance requirements.

Physical/Environmental Demands:

  1. Lift/push/pull 50-75 lbs on a frequent basis.
  2. Frequent stooping, twisting, turning, and bending.
  3. Elevated risk of exposure to infectious processes.
  4. Use of transfer and other household equipment.
