Job Summary

Geisinger’s Employee Health team is seeking an experienced, per diem, Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join their Geisinger Center Point clinic in beautiful Pittston, PA.

Job Duties

The ideal candidate will:

  • Assess and establish a presumptive diagnosis and implements treatment plans for their patient population.

  • Make accurate and complete entries into the electronic medical record; orders and interprets diagnostic testing and consults as appropriate and prescribes appropriate medical therapy utilizing evidenced based practice.

  • Prescribe, adjust, or discontinue medications or therapies as appropriate.

  • Evaluate and report to collaborating physician any circumstances or approaches to medical management or test results that present a significant risk to patient's health or well-being.

  • Perform procedures within the scope of practice of the physician assistant license.

  • Communicate with collaborative physician, patient, PCP and referring staff through telephone or other means of correspondence.

  • Instill confidence in patient acting as their advocate by providing safe, ethical care and health education to the patient and their family in a language that they can understand.

  • Interpret and follow policies and guidelines to define procedures and meet goals and deadlines.

Work is typically performed in a clinical environment. Accountable for satisfying all job specific obligations and complying with all organization policies and procedures. In collaboration with the physician, the advanced practitioner will provide care to Geisinger employees/staff. Demonstrate autonomy through patient evaluation, assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care. Order testing as deemed necessary and remains proficient in interpreting results and prescribing appropriate medication and therapeutic regimen within the scope of practice of the physician assistant. These roles, undertaken in cooperation with nursing, staff physicians and other department staff, may include triage, telephone communication and patient education.

Position Details

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Advanced practitioners must have at least one year of provider professional experience in a clinic setting and able to treat staff aged fourteen years and older.

The successful Physician Assistant candidate will work under the responsibility and supervision of the physician and require completion of an ARC-PA (or predecessor organization) approved physician assistant program, current NCCPA certification or eligibility and Pennsylvania State licensure.

The successful Nurse Practitioner candidate will work in collaboration with the physician and have a certificate of completion from an approved program for Nurse Practitioners or be eligible to hold national certification that allows the NP to work with the patient populations and location settings associated with this position. Must be eligible for licensure as a nurse practitioner in the state of PA.

Additional Job Details:

-Provide initial and/or follow up care on employee/staff worker’s compensation injuries, exposures, and illnesses

-Provider regulatory physicals (i.e. LIFE Geisinger and Department of Transportation)

-Clinic schedule Monday-Friday 7:30a-3:00p

-Providers may need to follow up, on occasion, via telephone after clinic hours (i.e. providing staff an update on test results)

-Occasional travel to Geisinger Medical Center (GMC) in Danville, PA to cover clinic if needed
