Berkshire Health Systems Certified Application Counselor in Pittsfield, Massachusetts

DEFINITION/PRIMARY FUNCTION The mission of Advocacy for Access is to help uninsured and underinsured people access various programs that can pay for health care services, thereby reducing or eliminating inability to pay as a barrier to receiving health care. Certified Application Counselors support this mission through their actions and genuine belief that everyone deserves access to health care and health coverage. This role is responsible for facilitating the enrollment and reenrollment of patients and community members into health coverage and financial assistance programs such as MassHealth, Qualified Health Plans administered by the Massachusetts Health Connector, Health Safety Net, Premium Assistance, Medical Hardship, Medicare Savings Programs, Prescription Advantage, and pharmaceutical assistance programs. This role will also assist individuals make informed decisions on the selection of health and dental plans and link patients with free or reduced cost primary and specialty care services and other community resources. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS (Minimum qualifications are required unless stated otherwise.) A. Experience: - At least two years of professional or paraprofessional experience in social work or social casework, claims adjudication, job placement, recruitment, employment counseling, vocational or rehabilitation counseling, credit investigation, educational counseling, legal advocacy, or legal counseling. B. Education and Training: - A Bachelor\'s degree (in a health, business, or legal-related discipline) is preferred, or an equivalent amount of related experience and education has been obtained that demonstrate the skills and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position. C. License, Certification & Registration: - CAC - Certified Application Counselor within 3 months of hire. - Required to be renewed on an annual basis. D. Other Requirements: - Stellar \"soft skills\" in verbal/written communication and customer service. Must be able to adapt communication style to suit different audiences. - Detail-oriented and highly organized, with strong ability to successfully multi-task. - Ability to manage time, prioritize tasks, and make independent decisions with minimal supervision. - Ability to display sound judgement coupled with maintaining composure in difficult situations. - Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. - Ability to maintain accurate records on information provided either orally or in writing. - Ability to define problems, collect data, draw conclusions, and make appropriate recommendations. - Ability to meet deadlines even with a high volume of interruptions. - Ability to handle a heavy caseload in an ongoing fashion and possess strong follow-through skills. - Ability to understand, interpret, apply, and explain pertinent laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. - Proficient usage of business applications/technologies such as Microsoft Office products - particularly Outlook, Word, and Excel; SharePoint; and Teams - Ability to analyze and assess the value of income (such as complex financial and tax documents) and assets (such as retirement accounts and life insurance policies). - Ability to complete complex insurance applications while educating consumers about their eligibility for benefits.
