Position: Visiting Assistant Professor of Practice, Teacher Education and Leadership (appointment-stream)

Appointment: 9- month, full-time, appointment stream: starting August 15, 2024

 

The School of Education at the University of Pittsburgh seeks to appoint a new visiting faculty in Teacher Education and Leadership. This person will play an instrumental role in our School's teacher education and educational leadership programs. We seek a practitioner-scholar who can contribute to how we are reimagining the important intersections, connections, and possibilities of educational leadership and teacher education in praxis and practice through theory and research and with schools, districts, and communities. Importantly, this position would serve as a crucial role as teacher candidate coach for two large teacher education programs: MAT and Secondary Education and PreK-12 SPED.

 

Responsibilities:

  1. Serve as a Teacher Candidate Coach of 20 students across teacher education programs

  2. Advise the Ed Leadership EdD, Principal Certification, and EdD in the Ed Leadership program

  3. Teach in programs based in the Department, which may include MAT, Undergraduate Secondary Education and PreK --12 SPED, K-12 Principal Certification, M.Ed in Educational Leadership

  4. Advise the LOE and EdD in Ed Leadership

     

     

Required Qualifications:

Earned doctorate in education or in a related discipline;

Direct experience in educational leadership and teacher education;

At least 3 years of K-12 teaching experience;

Evidence of service to the profession and leadership, for example, national conference presentations, writing grant proposals, and/or classroom-based research publications for professional and practitioner audiences;

Demonstrated evidence of teaching excellence with undergraduate and/or graduate K-12 teacher education students;

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work across university departments and schools

 

Strongly Preferred Qualifications

Experience as an instructional coaching or supervision of student teachers

Evidence of research that represents recent advances in the field of teacher education or educational leadership
