Sr. Manager, Software Engineering - Robotics

We are looking for a Sr. Manager, Software Engineering to join our Hardware Engineering team to lead and grow an engineering team responsible for control software design, development, support, and maintenance of complex software projects. This role requires a strong leader who can prioritize well with strong customer focus, communicate and collaborate effectively with the team and leadership, and has a track record of building strong teams that deliver results. The ideal candidate will devise a clear strategy, positioning, and execution of priorities and be comfortable thinking big and diving deep.

Responsibilities

  • Provide organizational, project and technical leadership to a software development team consisting of both full time and contracted employees.

  • Ensure that appropriate software engineering practices are employed to deliver high quality results.

  • Handle multiple projects in a cross-functional environment, influence project direction, and make decisions with all levels of management.

  • Serve as the last line of defense for technical challenges encountered with our products in the field

  • Use tact and diplomacy to resolve prioritization issues across team and organizational boundaries.

  • Be an active member in foreseeing, triaging, and facilitating the resolution of technical issues.

  • Hire, mentor, build and maintain top-class software development team members.

  • Build and maintain a strong team environment by providing employee development, team building, coaching, and mentoring.

  • Responsibility for your team’s compensation planning, performance reviews, development plans and quarterly goals.

  • Communicate with product management and customers on an as-needed basis to clarify product requirements or support Customer’s defect investigations.

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Demonstrated leadership and experience guiding software teams

  • Prior experience managing device-level software development projects.

  • Strong interpersonal skills demonstrated by the ability to build relationships with and influence different personality types.

  • Strong analytical skills with experience as an individual contributor designing and developing critical high-availability software products.

  • Have a thorough understanding of software development processes (development, configuration, testing, and deployment)

  • Strong knowledge of various Microsoft server and client Operating Systems is mandatory

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science/Engineering

  • 10+ years of Software Development experience with at least 5 years of management experience

  • 2+ years of experience in managing software development groups on a product or multiple projects

Preferred Qualifications

  • M.S degree in Computer Science or Engineering

  • Experience with machine automation, motion control, and robotic vision systems.

  • Experience developing medical device software within an FDA-regulated environment.

  • Healthcare industry experience in supply chain management and automated medication distribution

  • Experience with technologies such as C#, Java, C++, PLC

  • Software design and development experience using Object Oriented programming techniques

  • Experience with Relational Databases

  • Experience in working with geographically distributed teams in delivering a high-quality product(s)
