UPMC Senior Dental Assistant in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh is hiring a part time Dental Assistant to work in the Dental Department at the main hospital location in Lawrenceville, PA. This is a part time, permanent position.

Under general supervision, this person performs duties associated with the delivery of clinical dental care. Interacts favorably with patients, parents, co-workers, supervisors, dentists and other Hospital staff in a dignified manner so that the Department's operations are orderly, efficient and consistent with Hospital decorum and high standards of professionalism.

UPMC is offering a $1500 sign on bonus for this role.

Title and rate of pay will be determined based on education and experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Keep treatment rooms clean and properly stocked.

  • Assist in the clinic and hospital OR including proper room set up, chair assisting and clean up according to hospital and clinic standards.

  • Fit orthodontic bands for final approval by the dentist.

  • Prepare electronic discharge documents and school/work excuses.

  • Ensure compliance with established policies in such a manner that all technical, interpersonal and administrative problems are readily resolved.

  • Maintain supplies for the surgery center and inform the Director of North Surgery Center when supplies need to be ordered.

  • Take and pour study model impressions, trimming and finishing cases.

  • Keep OR procedure room carts and shelves clean and properly stocked.

  • Take and pour study model impressions, trim and finish cases, mail and receive appliances and models from laboratories

  • Take and develop radiographs of a consistent, good diagnostic quality for review by dentist.

  • Provide input to the annual performance review for the dental assistants in a timely manner.

  • Give and receive accurate and complete information to parents and doctors while displaying professionalism.

  • Train dental assistants and dental assistant students in the proper methodologies of assisting in the OR both Main and Satellite locations, stocking supplies, preparing for each patient cleaning up after each patient and proper documentation.

  • Maintain equipment and supplies with oversight from the Clinic Coordinator.

  • Mix various cements and materials and place topical anesthetics and rubber dams on patients.

  • Pass instruments to the Dentist/Orthodontist during Dental/Orthodontic examinations and procedures using four handed dental assisting techniques.

  • Assist in the clinic and hospital OR and Satellite locations including proper room set up, chair side assisting and clean up in accordance with hospital and clinic standards.

  • Perform all necessary housekeeping procedures including keeping all work areas properly stocked. Manage spills and patient accidents

  • Fit orthodontic bands for final approval by the dentist.

  • Page, greet and seat patient. Weigh patient if applicable. Prepare electronic documents including discharge summary and school/work excuse.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • 3 years of Dental Assistant experience required.

  • Graduate of a dental assisting school preferred.

  • Experience and skill with standard four-handed dentistry techniques. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Dental Radiology Certificate OR Dental Auxiliary Personnel License.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS)

  • Dental Radiology Certificate

  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal

  • Act 33 with renewal

  • Act 34 with renewal

  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
