Steel Valley Authority Northeast Regional Director in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

The Steel Valley Authority (SVA) is seeking a Northeast Regional Director who will be responsible for the Strategic Early Warning Network (SEWN) administration in a 16-county region. The NE Regional Director reports to the Deputy Director working to engage in outreach and networking to maintain and develop regional private and public sector partners and resources to achieve the mission. SEWN is Pennsylvania's layoff aversion program created, implemented, and managed by the SVA since 1989. SEWN's mission is saving Pennsylvania manufacturing jobs by offering  specialized consulting services to restructure, turn-around and stabilize at-risk small and medium size companies. It achieves this by providing specialized turnaround advisory services funded through the PA Department of Labor and Industry. 

Responsibilities

Outreach:

  • Maintain and expand the Northeast industry retention system into a multi-county and cross-organizational network.
  • Build alliances, partnerships, and awareness of SEWN by meeting, educating, and coordinating with a broad range of stakeholders including economic development and workforce development professionals, private sector professionals, labor, and public officials.

Technical Assistance: 

  • Provide initial analysis of potential retention clients to determine feasibility and resource requirements.
  • Develop and implement customized turnaround plans utilizing personal experience and skills as well as other organizational resources.  

Work Objectives

  • Continue to expand SEWN's impact on at-risk companies throughout the Northeast region of Pennsylvania by building awareness and referral sources.
  • Conduct assessments, develop turnaround strategies, provide hands-on technical assistance, and coordinate other resources (as applicable) with companies and plants to prevent closings and minimize layoffs.
  • Provide technical assistance, analysis, planning and implementation to assist manufacturers specifically in the areas of Financial Restructuring, Operations & Cost Management, Ownership Transition, New Market Opportunities and High-Performance Workplace Strategies. 
  • Fulfill internal reporting requirements and requests that enable the SVA to promote the work of the SEWN program and to meet funding requirements as requested by the SVA and its project funders.
  • Contribute to the overall success and vision of the SEWN program continuing as the national gold standard in state layoff aversion programs as benchmarked by the number of Pennsylvania jobs saved for dollars spent.  

Requirements

BA degree minimum and a documented history of relevant previous experience and appropriate skill sets required. Demonstrated experience in either corporate or advisory turnarounds preferred.  The successful candidate may be required to attain their CTA (Certified Turnaround Analyst) certification within a reasonable time frame to round out their knowledge base.
