UPMC Magee Women's Hospital is hiring a full-time Mammographer Advanced Multi Skill to join the team with UPMC West Mifflin! This position will have daylight hours, Monday through Friday varying between 6:30am and 11:00am. There will be occasional Saturday shifts. This position requires travel up to 50% to other Magee Women's Imaging locations.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform correlative breast examinations and document scars, moles and pertinent findings. Discuss the importance for the need to have a clinical breast examination performed by a qualified health care provider annually.

  • Perform and analyze bone density measurements utilizing bone densitometer and prepare test results for physician interpretation.

  • Performs equipment quality control procedures utilizing radioactive sources and evaluates results to assure equipment performance is within acceptable standards.

  • Demonstrates a willingness to learn new skills and a willingness to educate others in their areas of expertise. Serves as a resource for new hires and students.

  • Perform mammography procedures in a technically proficient manner including proper application of breast compression, positioning and a variety of special mammography views to maximize the diagnostic quality of the examination.

  • Performs breast ultrasounds per direction of the radiologist and documents findings for the purpose of making a diagnosis.

  • Prepare patient for mammography, ultrasound, or bone densitometry procedure and tend to the physical safety and comfort of the patient. Instruct patients, explaining procedures, to allay their anxiety and solicit cooperation.

  • Works as a team member within assigned departments to expedite patient care efficiently by demonstrating excellent communication and customer service skills. Effectively communicates with physicians, co-workers, managers, and patients in assigned sites and/or departments.

  • Maintains flexibility to work within different clinical areas to support the needs of the departments and/or business units to ensure that staffing is adequate to support services across the enterprise. Maintains assigned workflow patterns at site based on patient volumes and continually communicates with supervisors and/or managers.

  • If required by this department, must demonstrate proper technique in venipuncture; demonstrates proper use of power injectors according to set protocols set by department and/or manufacturer.

  • May be required to administer PO, and IV contrast per physician orders/department policy and assess patients for potential risk factors prior to the administration of the contrast media required for the imaging procedure.

Minimum of two years clinical experience as a registered mammography technologist with additional competencies in specialized imaging procedures. Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively interact with patients in sensitive situations explaining procedures, providing instruction and providing comfort and support. Analytical ability necessary to operate complex equipment, optimize image quality and minimize patient exposure to ionizing radiation. Advanced skills and competency required to fulfill duties and responsibilities of invasive breast imaging procedures, breast sonography and/or bone densitometry. Comprehensive knowledge of sterile technique and operation of complex equipment. Maintain active 15 mammography credits every 3 years as defined by the Mammography Quality Standard Act. When rotating between two or more specialties, must hold registry in each specialty. Must have obtained a performance review rating of strong/solid/good on most recent performance review to be eligible for promotion.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

American Registry Radiologic Technologists Breast sonography and/or bone densitometry certification required. Must maintain 2 imaging registries/certifications and maintain competency in both as required by hiring Business Unit. Must be willing and demonstrate flexibility to be assigned to any of the maintained registries by leadership. Must provide flexibility to work least one off-shift (evening, nights or weekend), every 90 days as requested by imaging leadership. CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
