Job Description:

We are seeking a caring, responsible and experienced individual to join our family as a live-in nanny. Our ideal nanny is bilingual and fluent in written and spoken Portuguese as well as English, and has an interest in or background in architeture or design and the ability to support our children's budding interests in architecture. As a live-in nanny, you will become an integral part of our household, providing attentive and nurturing care to our children while ensuring their safety and well-being. We are a household of six, with two working parents and four children, ages 4, 6, 15 and 17. Our four year old is a loving boy on the autism spectrum and requires extra stimulation, attention and care. Hours of work will primarily be Monday through Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm, with occasional work on evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities:

  • Providing full-time care for the two younger children, including but not limited to feeding, bathing, dressing, and engaging in age-appropriate activities.
  • Providing personalized support for our child on the autism spectrum, including daily routines, sensory activities and behavioral interventions.
  • Engaging our 6 year old in educationally stimulating activities, including daily communication in Portuguese to further develop his language skills.
  • Creating a safe and stimulating environment for children to thrive in.
  • Planning and organizing daily activities, including educational and recreational outings.
  • Collaborating with therapists and educators to ensure consistency and progress, and incorporating therapy concepts into activities related to design.
  • Assisting with light household duties related to the children, such as meal preparation, laundry, and tidying up their play areas.
  • Collaborating with parents to maintain consistency in routines and parenting styles.
  • Monitoring children's development and reporting any concerns to parents.
  • Accompanying children to appointments and extracurricular activities.
  • Accompanying 4 year old to occupational and speech therapy appointments, and relaying important information and session outcomes.
  • Assisting the older children with homework, and directing them to complete their chores.
  • Being a positive role model and fostering a loving and supportive relationship with the children.
  • Accompanying the family on vacations and providing child care as needed.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working as a nanny or childcare provider.
  • Documented experience working with children with special needs, particularly with children on the autism spectrum.
  • Genuine love for children and a passion for their well-being and development.
  • Bilingual proficiency in both English and Portuguese, with the ability to effectively communicate and engage with the children in both languages.
  • Ability to provide a safe and nurturing environment for children of various ages.
  • Patience, empathy and a genuine passion for supporting children with special needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask.
  • Patience, reliability, and flexibility.
  • A valid PA driver's license and a clean driving record and insurance.
  • Willingness to undergo a background check and provide references.
  • Non-smoker preferred.
  • First aid and CPR certification preferred.
  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent in early childhood education, architecture, design or business.
