Laboratory Research Technician

The Department of Surgery, Division of Pediatric Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking a qualified Lab Technician. The Lab Technician position is in the laboratory of Dr. Gittes at the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC. This position will report directly to Dr. Gittes or his designate and will be responsible for assisting in the execution of a variety of experiments. Under the general guidance from the principal investigators, and the researchers in the lab, the individual will conduct routine and non-routine research experiments involving basic molecular biology and various animal medical research. The individual should be highly motivated, detail oriented, and able to prioritize multiple projects.

Job Summary

 

Performs laboratory testing and some analysis on multiple types of specimen samples. Operates and properly sterilizes equipment and maintains inventory and assists with ordering.

 

Essential Functions

The incumbent will participate in various University research projects. Tasks could include, but are not limited to, data gathering, data analysis, basic laboratory jobs, and maintenance of study equipment. Requires basic skills acquired through some previous work experience, training and/or completion of related coursework. Responsibilities may require the application of basic organizational and/or more technical knowledge, operation and accountability for more complex equipment, or performing routine tasks. Some independent decision making and supervision of other student employees or volunteers with daily on site supervision.
