Job Description

Position Summary:

The International Tax Manager is primarily responsible for the preparation, processing, and review of the international components of Thermo Fisher’s federal income tax compliance. In this position, the International Tax Manager will coordinate all compliance aspects for the foreign subsidiaries and affiliates including but not limited to information gathering and analysis, preparation of forms 5471, 8858, 8865, etc., determination of Subpart F income, foreign tax credit analysis, disclosure, GILTI, FDII, and other required federal income tax reporting and compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct, review, and assist compliance staff in the completion of U.S. International tax compliance calculations and forms for inclusion in the U.S. income tax return.

  • Respond to International information requests from the IRS and assist with the assessment of tax risk associated with International transactions.

  • Tax planning, research and transactional support in respect of the Thermo Fisher’s foreign subsidiaries and affiliates.

  • Provide support and assistance where necessary with respect to foreign tax credit calculation, utilization, and planning.

  • Analyze, summarize, and document restructuring, acquisition, and divestiture transactions to ensure accurate tax reporting and disclosure.

  • Provide analysis, support and assistance with respect to the GILTI and FDII

  • Provide detailed support and analysis regarding international aspects of income tax accounting under the guidance of ASC 740, FIN 48, FAS 109 and other related pronouncements.

  • Maintain understanding of tax compliance software and stay abreast of technological changes so that the international compliance group is utilizing the most efficient process and procedures to ensure accurate reporting.

  • Train, mentor, and develop fellow tax department team members.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five to seven years of progressive corporate tax experience including management of a tax compliance process. Experience in a public accounting environment is preferred.

  • Supervisory experience.

  • The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor degree in accounting, a Masters in taxation and CPA certification.

  • Experience with Onesource and Tax Stream is a plus.

Non-Negotiable Hiring Criteria:

  • Extensive experience preparing and reviewing international components of federal corporate tax returns, including coordinating with the Federal Compliance Manager for the overall process.

  • Strong knowledge of U.S. foreign inbound tax covering foreign tax credits, E&P reporting, foreign source income and expense allocation.

  • Solid organizational, analytical, written, oral and interpersonal skills;

  • Excellent computer skills, especially Microsoft Excel

Strong technical tax skills and experience using tax research software
