Dental Assistant, Emergency Clinic

Job Summary

 

Performs chairside dental assisting and radiography in a dental specialty clinic with patients who may have received sedation and/or outpatient general anesthesia. Provides client-based oral hygiene and appliance care and completes patient chart documentation in accordance with all applicable regulations. Maintains equipment, dispenses supplies, sets up for all procedures, and follows proper sanitization and sterilization procedures.

 

Essential Functions

  1. Clinic Duties: Chairside dental assisting for students and faculty which includes the taking of dental radiographs. The dental assistant must also be proficient at dental charting and recording patient data including the taking of patient vital signs. 2. Clerical duties: Answer the telephone; take and deliver messages. Disseminate inter & intradepartmental communication. Registering and assigning emergency patients. Incorporating patient records into the Electronic Health Record from both internal and external sources. Interfacing patient records via SDM scheduling and business software. Communicating with patients and advising them of an emergency clinic and SDM policies. Limited financial counseling of patients regarding emergency care. Maintain and file student records, including grade forms and attendance forms. Monitor student schedules and attendance. 3. Dispensary duties: Dispense equipment, instruments, and supplies to students. Restock dispensary supplies and instruments. Processing of instrument cassettes through the Instrumentation Management System (IMS) and sterilization of locally maintained instruments. Monitor and maintain clinic sterilization equipment and enforcement of disinfection methods. Monitor and maintain the dispensary inventory including supplies and instruments, ordering, and restocking. 4. Other duties: Dental assistant is responsible for opening and closing the emergency clinic. Must assume designated responsibilities of co-workers as needed.

Must be able to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time.
