Pittsburg State University is accepting applications for an Assistant Athletic Trainer in the Intercollegiate Athletics department. The Assistant Athletic Trainer will serve as an assistant to the Head Athletic Trainer to provide medical care assistance and coverage to all sports within the Intercollegiate Athletics program. The primary purpose of this position is to oversee PSUs therapeutic rehabilitation program and to split travel responsibilities (i.e. sports coverage) with all athletic trainers. This position will also assist the Head Athletic Trainer in various other ways.

Duties and Responsibilities of Position

70% Assist in identifying and initiating preventative programs to reduce injury/illness risk factors. Evaluate physical condition and provide skilled treatment to student athletes. Provide first aid and emergency care for athletic-related injuries and determine appropriate medical referrals as warranted. Responsible for record management of injuries and assisting in processing insurance claims. Apply therapeutic treatments and rehabilitative exercise programs to injured athletes. Also, work with the Head Athletic Trainer in identifying and initiating preventative programs to reduce injury/illness risk factors. Supervise student athletic trainers where necessary. Supervise athletes using equipment and for therapeutic and rehabilitation purposes. Maintain NATA-BOC certification and the State of Kansas licensure by attending continuing education seminars.

20% Recognize and evaluate care of injuries and illnesses. Assist as health care liaison between physicians, coaches, administrators, parents and public. Communicate effectively with strength and conditioning coaches regarding the injured student-athletes strength and conditioning parameters and limitations associated with injury rehabilitation.

10% Refer injured/ill athletes to the appropriate medical authority and other duties as assigned.
