Overview

The North America Finance Director is responsible for overseeing the company's North American financial operations. This role involves financial planning, analysis, budgeting, and reporting, as well as ensuring compliance with financial regulations and accounting standards. The Finance Director will work closely with the CEO, CFO, President of Sales, other senior leadership, and key internal and external stakeholders to support the company’s global business objectives.

Responsibilities

  • * Develop and implement financial strategies that align with the company’s North American business objectives
  • * Provide financial insights and recommendations to support strategic decision-making at the global level
  • * Lead and drive a growth mindset for critically reviewing our route to market and developing robust business plans for new markets and domestic expansions
  • * Oversee the financial operations of the company’s divisions to ensure full compliance with all relevant audit, taxation, corporate secretarial, and transfer pricing regulations
    • Lead the entire Annual Audit process for all legal entities ensuring a clean, efficient, and seamless process that is complete within 4 months of year-end
    • Direct internal controls and financial audits across domestic operations
  • * Manage the consolidation of financial statements for all domestic operations
  • * Monitor and manage cash flow, and working capital across different regions with a rigorous focus on ensuring that there is no bad debt risk or aging issue on our Accounts Receivable ledger
  • * Lead the budgeting process for domestic operations, ensuring alignment with corporate goals
  • * Work with department heads to ensure that all budgeting requirements are disseminated, understood, and completed as required
    • Work closely with managers in all functional areas to assess the financial viability of various business considerations and return on investment
    • Collaborate with senior management, providing financial insights to support business strategies
  • * Prepare and present financial forecasts, identifying potential risks and opportunities
  • * Ensure compliance with accounting standards, federal and state financial regulations
  • * Identify and mitigate financial risks related to domestic operations, including, tax compliance, and geopolitical risks
  • * Analyse variances between actual and budgeted performance, providing explanations and corrective actions
  • * Guide, mentor, and develop a team of finance professionals
    • Lead the Finance team in the timely completion of all month-end financial activities including but not limited to, the preparation of consolidated financial statements, balance sheet, creditor account reconciliations, accruals, reserves, and intercompany transactions
    • Foster a culture of high performance, accountability, and continuous improvement within the wider team
  • * Partner with the Sales team (Commercial and Retail) to ensure accurate and timely finance support is provided to the sales function on all pricing and tender requests and act as a conduit for the sales function on all Sales Operational issues
  • * Engage with external stakeholders, including auditors, regulators, banks, insurance brokers, and investors, as needed
  • * Represent the finance department in meetings with international partners, joint ventures, or alliances
  • * Obtain and examine audit evidence and consider the possibility of fraud, illegal acts, or other irregularities in the examination of audit evidence
  • * Evaluate and implement financial systems and technologies that enhance the efficiency and accuracy of financial operations
  • * For any ERP system changes or improvements, take the lead for all finance-related activities and be an active member of the project team to ensure on-time project delivery
  • * Lead process improvement initiatives to streamline financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance activities across regions
  • * Additional duties or responsibilities as needed

Qualifications

  • * Bachelor’s degree in finance/accounting with 10+ years of progressive experience with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role managing finance operations
  • * CMA essential; MBA/CPA preferred
  • * Strong knowledge of financial regulations and accounting standards in Canada, the United States, and Mexico
  • * Experience with financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting in a multinational environment
  • * Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing finance teams
  • * Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels
  • * Demonstrated ability to synthesize complex financial and operational results in presentation materials and communicate insights effectively
  • * Solid knowledge of accounting policies/procedures and financial statements
  • * Highly collaborative approach with emphasis on continuous improvement
  • * Proven strategic thinker with strong experience in the development and implementation of business strategy
  • * Must exhibit the highest professional standards and ethical principles
  • * Must demonstrate consistent exceptional performance with a sense of urgency and commitment
  • * Some international travel may be required

COMPUTER SKILLS:

  • * Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems; experience with Infor preferred
