First Health of the Carolinas Exercise Specialist ACSM in Pinehurst, North Carolina

Designs individual exercise prescriptions in consultation with the medical director for cardiac rehab patients in accordance with valid training principles and medical diagnosis. Updates on a weekly basis exercise prescription based on clinical status and responses to exercise. Demonstrates problem solving/critical thinking skills in performing a physical examination of the cardiovascular system including HR, BP, palpate and inspect for edema, redness etc and inspects surgical wounds. Reporting significant and accurate data regarding aspects of care to the appropriate people. Develops risk factor profile and CVD risk reduction strategies. Performs basic tests: B/P, reading ECG telemetry, 12-lead ECG, pulse oximetry, blood glucose and interpretation of blood lipids. Collaborating with other health professionals in the provision of care in the development of the patient's individual treatment plans by obtaining patients preferences and goals including behavioral strategies that will improve compliance with regular physical activity recommendation. Revising the exercise plan of care based on the patient outcome. Develops a discharge plan as it relates to intensity, duration and frequency of exercise involving all aspects of patients care. Maintains records of pertinent information obtained during the session of each patient and identify clinical significance of data. Accurately interpret data of EKG and blood pressure responses in patients during the exercise therapy reporting deviations from expected range of targeted outcome. Provides individual and group educational classes regarding illness, treatment plan and disease management. Interactive communication and counseling with patients/family on treatment plan through shared decision making. Bachelor's degree in exercise physiology or equivalent in related health field. Masters degree preferred. Certification, experience and training equivalent to those supervised for an exercise specialist by the American College of Sports Medicine. Certified in BCLS. Appropriate and acceptable work experience in developing and implementing and updating exercise prescriptions in patients with CAD, respiratory disease and vascular disease. Minimum of two years experience in the field of cardiac and rehab preferred.
