Police Recruits attend a 26-week paid training program at the Phoenix Regional Police Academy (PRPA) learning various topics related to law enforcement. Upon successful completion of the academy, Recruits are Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training Certified and promoted to Police Officer.

SALARY

Police recruits are paid during the 26-week Police Academy an hourly rate of \$33.72/hour or \$70,137.60 annually. After successful completion of the police academy, new officers will earn \$35.75/hour or \$74,360 annually.Opportunities are possible for additional compensation from overtime and/or off-duty work are available. Officers receive annual increases and can earn up to \$51.84/hour or \$107,827.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Applicants are to be at least 20.5 years old within two months of the date of application. Must be 21 years of age before graduating from the academy.
  • United States citizenship.
  • A high school diploma, home school diploma, or a GED equivalency.
