Indian Health Service Custodial Worker Lead in Phoenix, Arizona

Summary This position is located in the Housekeeping Services Department, at the Phoenix Indian Medical Center, in Phoenix, AZ. The incumbent serves as work leader and also performs non-leader work requiring knowledge and application of specialized cleaning procedures within the medical center including the intensive care unit, central supply, emergency room area, operating room, obstetric ward and delivery room. Responsibilities Demonstrates proper work methods, and starts work. Works along with other employees and sets pace performing custodial work of the same kind and levels as that done by the group led. Checks work while in progress and upon completion to ensure that supervisor's instructions on work sequence, methods, procedures and deadlines are met and advise employees such compliance from employees led. Answers workers' questions regarding cleaning procedures, policies, written instructions and other directives. Reports to the supervisor on status and progress of work, causes of delays, and overall work operations and problems. Performs specialized cleaning procedures in such areas as, interim and terminal isolation room upon discharge of patient, Intensive Care Unit, Central Supply and the Emergency Room area. Checks assigned work area and check sheets to insure specific room cleaning schedules are met and proper standards and infection control requirements are maintained. Operates heavy industrial type equipment such as, scrubbing and high speed burnishers, high and low speed buffers, battery operated scrubber, carpet scrubber with extractor, high pressure sprayer, mercury vacuum, industrial vacuum. Makes minors adjustment on cleaning equipment as necessary. Requirements Conditions of Employment Must pass pre-employment examination. Working Conditions: Incumbent is exposed to unpleasant odors and is frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts, chapped hands and bruises. Protective gloves must be worn at all times when handling Infectious waste. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Education There are no education requirements. Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. This position is covered by a Bargaining Unit. Recruitment and/or Relocation Incentives may be authorized and is subject to availability and service unit approval. If offered, you will be required to sign a one (1) year service agreement. Failure to fulfill the service agreement will result in repayment of the incentive. This position has no promotion potential.
