Nueva Esperanza STAFF ACCOUNTANT in PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania

POSITION DESCRIPTION: STAFF ACCOUNTANT

JOB SUMMARY:

The Staff Accountant is an exempt position responsible for processing a variety of accounting transactions to confirm accuracy, proper calculations and amounts, inclusion of appropriate source documentation, proper budget, and general ledger coding.  Trace discrepancies through source materials, or through communication with originating party to resolve.  Provides support to leadership to ensure reconciliations, month end close, budget & audit processes are completed in a timely manner and in compliance with policy.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Record all cash receipts, deposits, and payments.
  • Generate PO's.
  • Accounts Payable invoice processing for all entities, confirming accuracy of coding.
  • Credit card reconciliation and payment processing
  • Monitors recurring invoices including utilities/insurances to ensure timely entry for payments.
  • Generate AR invoices for entities.
  • Ensures all transactions are supported by appropriate documentation and files are maintained according to record retention requirements.
  • Prepare month end journal entries and allocations.
  • Assists with monthly grant invoice preparation.
  • Management fee invoice preparation and related entries.
  • Indirect cost allocation preparation.
  • Monitor and analyze financial information.
  • Assist in the annual external audit(s).
  • Participate in the annual budgeting and forecast update processes.
  • Support the development, implementation, and compliance of the system of internal controls for the financial assets of the organization.
  • Participate in professional development as required.

Other Duties as Assigned:

  • Cross train and serve as back-up for other functions within the Department.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Accounting Manager.
  • Special projects.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, Accounting or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Understanding of internal controls and compliance
  • Excellent attention to details
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated analytical ability, abstract reasoning skills, and excellent organization skills.
  • Operational proficiency with automated tools and software.
  • Ability to prioritize and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Well versed in GAAP.
