Job Summary The Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Drexel University College of Medicine is hiring a Research Assistant to work in the laboratory of Dr. Akhil Vaidya at the Queen Lane Campus. Essential Functions Duties of the incumbent: prepare media for parasite culture; carry out large-scale cultures of malaria parasites; assist in isolation of parasite mitochondria;  assist in immuno-isolation of various proteins and complexes of malaria parasites for structural studies; construct plasmid vectors to carry out transfections of malaria parasites;  participate in general maintenance of the laboratory; additional laboratory tasks as  assigned by Dr. Vaidya. We are seeking an individual who has substantial experience in working with malaria parasites in culture.  The incumbent will also need to have experience in carrying out construction of recombinant plasmid vectors that will permit CRISPR-Cas9 mediated gene editing and to assess their consequences in the phenotype of malaria parasites. Required Qualifications Minimum of a Masters Degree in Microbiology or . Minimum of a year of experience with research experience. Experience in culturing Plasmodium falciparum; molecular genetic technics for manipulation of malaria parasites. Physical Requirements Typically sitting at a desk/table. Typically standing, walking. Location Queen Lane Campus, Philadelphia, PA Additional Information This position is classified as Exempt, grade I. Compensation for this grade ranges from $ 41,120.00 to $ 61,680.00 per year.
