Key responsibilities

  • Process weekly payroll for approximately 500 employees, including union and non-union employees, hourly and salaried workers, and commissions for salespeople.

  • Handle union reporting requirements, ensuring compliance with collective bargaining agreements.

  • Respond to unemployment inquiries and manage unemployment claims.

  • Process garnishments and other payroll deductions accurately and timely.

  • Make payroll adjustments as necessary, such as bonuses, overtime, and leaves of absence.

  • Add and delete employees from payroll as needed, ensuring accurate record-keeping.

  • Direct voluntary deductions, as well as wage garnishments, pay levies, and other involuntary court-ordered payments in a timely manner, including reporting to the necessary authorities

  • Honor current payroll tax requirements and relevant laws associated with the processing of employee wage data, including payroll taxes, employee federal and state income and social security taxes and other required reporting

  • Check data entered by others in the payroll software to include, but not limited to salary/wage increases, benefit deductions, employee termination dates, and employee leaves of absence under FMLA or other unpaid leave

  • Execute regular payroll reporting as required and assist with financial audits related to pay records and associated general ledger

  • Manage quarterly and year-end payroll reports

  • Support staff with fringe benefits, pay related issues, general questions related to payroll, PTO accruals, and wage deductions

  • Aim for timely processing of payroll in accordance with labor regulations and standard accounting principles

  • Form systems and protocols to direct the collection, calculation and entering of pay data

  • Work with Information Technology, Human Resources, and other internal business partners to ensure security protocols for pay systems

  • Go over pay practices related to FLSA, fringe benefit reporting and other payroll areas and determine how those practices apply to advise management

    Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in payroll processing for a similar-sized organization.

  • Strong systems skills, including experience with payroll software and MS Excel.

  • Experience with unions, including union reporting and compliance with union agreements.

  • Knowledge of garnishment processes and regulations.

  • Attention to detail and ability to work accurately in a fast-paced environment.

  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

  • Knowledge of Automated Payroll

  • Earlier work involving Microsoft Dynamics NAV

  • Practical knowledge of payroll for over 500 employees

  • Wide ranging experience with Payroll Functions

  • Full Cycle Payroll experience preferred

  • Well-founded grasp of payroll systems for 100-500 employees

  • Experience with Multi-state Payroll

  • Proven knowledge of payroll

  • Quality experience with union payroll

  • Certified Payroll experience

  • General familiarity with garnishments payroll

  • Automated Payroll experience

    • Skill in garnishments, processing liens, and various withholdings

    • Need to have practical experience in an HRIS system and high proficiency with spreadsheets

  • 3+ years of payroll experience

    • CPP or FPC preferred
