Position:Learning Zone Tutor

Department:Philadelphia Temple Corps

Availability of Position:ASAP

Schedule:Part-time up to 19 hours weekly; Monday to Friday, 3:30 pm – 7:00 pm

Reporting Relationship:Corps Commanding Officers

Salary/Grade:$15.00 per hour; Non Exempt, Grade 74

Position Overview:

The Salvation Army Learning Zone Tutor (LZT) serves neighborhood children as a Reading and Math tutor within The Salvation Army's Learning Zone program.

Responsibilities

Description of Position:

  • Develop and implement lesson plans for students.

  • Assist students with homework.

  • Provide academic tutoring to assigned students, either in a group and/or individually aimed at developing student mastery, using Math and English curriculums such as Achieve Now, Do the Math, After the Bell and Math decoding curriculums.

  • Assist with corps programming as directed by Learning Zone Coordinator.

  • Administer pre/post, and on-going assessment tools concerning sight words and multiplication tables and the curriculum.

  • Maintain and update daily and weekly student records with required data on academic progress, attendance, and behavior.

  • Assist vendors in implementing enrichment and recreational programming.

  • Meet with teachers, parents, and staff to develop specific achievement goals and prepare progress reports for parents.

  • Serve as a positive Role Model.

  • In the event of an incident, prepare an incident report in a timely fashion.

  • Attend trainings, as instructed.

  • Assist and support other activities as needed or instructed by the Corps Officer(s), such as with the Seasonal Programs (Back-to-School Program, Toys, Coats, Kettle Campaign, etc.), as required

  • Performs other related duties, as assigned.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.

  • Prior experience preferred.

  • A valid Driver’s license, ability to drive a 12-passenger van, and ability to pass the Salvation Army van driver certification course.

  • CPR/First Aid certified preferred. If not, must be willing to get certified within the first 90 days.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to work with all people pleasantly and compassionately.

  • Ability to relate to and work with diverse populations.

  • As a Mandated Reporter, must provide proof of having completed training on recognizing and reporting child abuse meeting the training standards of PA Act 153 of 2014 within 30 days of employment with recurrent training required every five years thereafter. Meets the Child Protection Clearances required by PA Act 153, including the PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check and FBI Criminal Record Check.
