Salary/Grade:$15 per hour; Non-exempt

    About the Reed House:

    The Salvation Army, Reed House is a 66 single room occupancy facility that houses formerly homeless residents. RH is located in the south Philadelphia section of Philadelphia. Reed House is a facility that is funded by the city of Philadelphia through the Department of housing and urban development’s Continuum of Care funding source. It is also funded by the Philadelphia Housing Authority (PHA), therefore, the residents are responsible for thirty percent of their rent, and PHA will pay for the other seventy percent of the rent through a Housing Assistance Payment directly to the site.

Responsibilities

Description of Position:

The Administrative Assistant is responsible for providing administrative support to the Business and Property Manager, and the Director of Reed House and Shelter Plus Care and, in doing so, always preserve confidentiality and exhibit professionalism in interactions with residents, other staff, and outside agencies and vendors. Other duties include word processing, filing, scheduling, record keeping, coordination of meetings and conferences, obtaining supplies, coordinating direct mailings, working on special projects; schedules; exercises independent judgment to plan, prioritize, and organize diversified workload; creates and develops visual presentations using Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point software; proofreads copy for spelling, grammar, and layout, making appropriate changes necessary to achieve accuracy and clarity.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Experience in multifamily maintenance and experience involving affordable housing, senior housing, or special needs housing.

  • Must be able to keep information in a confidential and secure fashion.

  • Must have High School Diploma or GED and at least two years building maintenance experience.

  • Required use of personal vehicle for depositing of rents.

  • Must be a self-starter who can work in an environment with multiple changing work priorities.

  • Good verbal and writing communication skills.

  • Must have an understanding of and appreciation for the Mission of The Salvation Army.

  • Child Protection Clearances PA Act 153 requires that all prospective employees complete the following clearance and background checks: PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check and FBI Criminal Record/Fingerprint Check.
