As a Traffic Signal Technician Lead for the City, you will be responsible for a variety of specialized tasks, including but not limited to, skilled and technical work in the construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of the traffic signal system. This position will be managing and monitoring the Advanced Traffic Signal Management System (ATMS).

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains the traffic signal network and manages and monitors the Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS), and having the ability to utilize the ATMS to run signal performance reports, alter signal timing when necessary, and identify faults in the system when they arise.

  • Install and set up signal controllers, cabinets, time clocks, loop detectors, emergency vehicle detectors, poles and mast arms, span wire and pedestrian poles, flasher beacons, signal and pedestrian heads, and other traffic signal equipment.

  • Works independently and exercises skilled judgment in the performance of assigned duties.

  • Skills in troubleshooting to restore operation of traffic signal control devices that have undergone electrical, electronic equipment or electrical wire/cable failure due to vehicular accidents, vandalism, adverse weather, or construction crews.

  • Program computerized traffic signal controllers, with knowledge of phasing/timing schemes.

  • Installs, maintains, and repairs computerized closed loop signal system and school zone warning systems.

  • Work with others to procure parts and equipment to maintain adequate stock levels of all maintenance parts necessary for both field and shop maintenance.

  • Maintains maintenance history record on each piece of major equipment as well as other work performed.

  • Recommends to supervisors the replacement of equipment, based on maintenance history.

  • Other duties, as assigned.

    Qualifications and Skill Requirements:

    Formal Education: High School Diploma or GED. Relatable Work Experience: Four (4) years of experience in traffic signal field or a combination of related skills. Training, Licenses, or Certifications: N/A Preferred Qualifications: Bilingual in Spanish. Level II IMSA Traffic Signal Certification.

    Disclaimer: Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is define as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.
