ABM Industries Maintenance Technician in Petersburg, Virginia

Overview

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for all activities related to the maintenance and repair of all mechanical systems within a property. The duties may include the maintenance and operations of HVAC equipment and controls. Other systems may include chilled water systems, boilers, refrigeration systems and other mechanical or electrical building systems. Thoroughly and accurately completes reactive and preventive maintenance and associated work orders. The Mechanic must be flexible and willing to complete all tasks that are assigned. Under minimal supervision, operates, maintains, services and repairs all electro / mechanical equipment on and in the campus facilities and any other related duties as may be required.

Schedule: Monday-Friday 8am - 5pm

Pay: $18.00-$20.00/hr

The pay listed is the hourly range or the hourly rate for this position. A specific offer will vary based on applicant’s experience, skills, abilities, geographic location, and alignment with market data.

401(k) – You become eligible to make personal contributions beginning the first of the month following 30 days of employment. You become eligible for the ABM match beginning the first of the month following six months of employment. ABM matches your pre-tax and/or Roth contributions, dollar for dollar, for the first 3%. For the next 2%, ABM contributes $0.50 for each dollar you contribute. Your contributions and match are immediately vested.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintains and repairs the facility's structure, equipment and grounds including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, business equipment, appliances and any other building systems deemed necessary.

  • Performs skilled trades work such as general carpentry, painting, repair or alteration of walls, rooftops, office fixtures and appliances.

  • Work with responsible personnel for the installation or repair of mechanical and electrical systems required in the production process

  • Makes periodic and special inspections of the premises to determine repair work necessary to maintain the integrity and safety of the buildings.

  • Works from blueprints, drawings, or rough sketches.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • A skilled understanding of the proper use of common hand tools.

  • A skilled understanding of the use of specialized tools and test equipment.

  • General understanding of mechanical, electrical, or plumbing concepts.

  • General understanding and ability to use a computer and digital information tools such as productivity software, e-mail, and databases.

SKILLS:

  • As a highly skilled specialist, contributes to the development of concepts and techniques to repair, service and maintain building and business assets.

  • Completes a variety of simple to complex tasks in creative and effective ways.

  • Skilled verbal and written professional business communications skills.

ABILITIES:

  • Consistently works on assignments requiring independent action and a high degree of initiative to resolve issues.

  • Makes recommendations for new service and maintenance procedures.
