Our work depends on an Amazon Web Services (AWS) System Administrator (SysAdmin) joining our team to support the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) activities at Columbia, MD.

At GDIT, we foster a people-centric environment. As a SysAdmin supporting CMS, you will be trusted to work on multi-account AWS enterprise environments, interacting effectively with customers and development teams, and implementing new infrastructure solutions for emerging new requirements. You will be a part of the operations team working in collaboration with other technology personnel as you support the development, validation, and production environments, deploying and managing services in the AWS cloud environment. In this role, a typical day will include:

  • Creating and managing infrastructure using various AWS cloud services

  • Creating automation scripts for provisioning, decommissioning, deploying services, and patching

  • Understanding and contributing solutions within the existing three tier architecture

  • Deploying and managing Docker Container Microservices with AWS services like ECS, Fargate and ECR

  • Managing development repositories and build automation and application deployment activities using CI/CD/CT pipelines

  • Working with AWS support to escalate the problems to find the product limitation solutions

  • Identifying potential scaling issues and help define how to monitor and fix them

  • Delivering continuous improvement of scripts and templates for reproducible deployments

  • Participating in release activities and an on-call rotation- 24x7 environment

  • Working as a team member in a fast-paced and time-sensitive environment


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

  • 5+ years of AWS Enterprise Cloud experience as a System Engineer, including experience with AWS services such as ECS, Fargate, Route 53, Cloud Formation and/or ECR

  • 5+ years of DevOps (CI/CD/CT) pipeline experience, including developing, deploying, and managing automated scripts using Jenkins and integrating Microservices using Docker containers

  • 4+ years of experience supporting a 24x7 Internet-oriented enterprise production environment, preferably across multiple data centers, involving at least hundreds of servers

  • Scripting experience such as shell, python working on common Linux distributions (RHEL, CentOS, Solaris, etc.)

  • Experience with Git version management servers and configuration management tools like Puppet, Ansible, Chef

  • Experience with proactive monitoring of enterprise environments using technologies, such as Chartbeat, ExtraHop, NewRelic, and/or Splunk

  • Thorough understanding of fundamental internet protocols such as DNS, HTTP, and/or TCP

  • Must be able to obtain Public Trust clearance and must have lived in the United States at least three (3) out of the last five (5) years.


  • US citizen or a Green Card holder

  • AWS DevOps certification(s)

  • Experience with Agile methodologies

  • SAFe certification(s)

  • AWS Experience using AWS FedRamp services

  • WebSphere Portal server administration experience

  • Experience with F5

  • Hands-on experience integrating with micro services as a SaaS
