First Solar Inc Development Engineering Intern (Summer 2024) in Perrysburg, Ohio

Expected Length of Internship: Summer Semester (3 months) As an internship company, we allow flexibility to enroll in classes while working as an intern, as long as it doesn't interfere with the essential functions of the position. Experience: Completion of an engineering statistics course is desired Education: Seeking a degree in an engineering discipline or similar technical discipline. First Solar encourages all interns to register their internship with their University. Required Skills/Competencies: Familiarity with MS office & basic knowledge of statistics software (JMP, Minitab, etc.). Be able to communicate well within team and cross-functionally. Ability to function independently with minimal supervision. Ability to use analytical skills to read charts and graphs to find trends. Ability to apply statistical methods to analyze data. Adaptability to a continually changing work environment. Ability to communicate on a regular basis with all levels of Associates. Basic Internship Scope (Project): This intern will be expected to assist in qualifying a junction-box design to that enables an edge-bussed module. The main duties will be to create new/modify current test methods to accommodate the new j-box design, to generate samples according to a pre-determined qualification plan, and to help acquire/analyze data to understand the performance of the junction-box design. Additional needs are to improve and understand the additive solder process that will be utilized to connect the junction box to the module. The major project will be the junction box initiative. By assisting with and optimizing testing, data acquisition, and solder process development, we will be able to better understand the capabilities/limitations of the junction box design and work to make improvements that will enable a robust, reliable component for a future edge-bussed product. Upon the completion of this internship, the intern is required to present their accomplishments and project summary to the leadership team. Estimated Salary Range: $17.50-$27.72/hr. US Physical Requirements: Will sit, stand, or walk short distances for entire duration of a shift. Will climb stairs on a frequent basis. Will lift up to 58 pounds on an occasional basis, according to work instruction. Will lift up to 37 pounds on a frequent basis. Will push or pull up to 27 pounds of force on an occasional basis. Will push or pull up to 10 pounds of force on a frequent basis. Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects repetitively on a frequent basis. 20/40 vision in each eye (with or without correction) and the ability to distinguish between red, yellow, and green is required. May reach above shoulder heights and below the waist on a frequent basis. May stoop, kneel, or bend, on an occasional basis. Must be able to comply with all safety standards and procedures. Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including, but not limited to; steel toed shoes, cut resistant gloves, jackets, aprons &/or arm guards, safety glasses, hearing protection).
