THE POSITION
This Case Manager position in Juvenile SPORE serves as a forensic caseworker and is responsible for supervision and case management of mentally ill and/or intellectually disabled individuals involved in the juvenile justice system. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This is a highly responsible supportive counseling/forensic case management position dealing with mentally ill and/or intellectually disabled juvenile offenders. The employee will be assigned to the Forensic Unit (S.P.O.R.E.). The SPORE Caseworker will provide casework and counseling services to aid individuals and families in order to achieve successful completion of community supervision. This is accomplished through weekly individual conferences, treatment team meetings, and clinical staffing with a licensed psychiatrist and/or psychologist. The SPORE Caseworker functions in a team with designated juvenile probation officers to determine the least intrusive and least restrictive treatment methods that can be employed in providing the treatment necessary for the person to reduce and eliminate impairing, harmful, and destructive symptoms and behaviors and provide protection for the community.
To accomplish this, the case manager will:
Incorporate the Balanced Approach to Restorative Justice, the Juvenile Justice System Enhancement Strategy, as well as Evidence Based Practices into its philosophy and service delivery as found in the Pennsylvania Juvenile Justice system.
Regularly meet with juvenile clients in school, home and employment settings; interview client, family members, friends, etc.; and review available records of past history, school records, evaluations, diagnostic testing, employment, and similar activities. Assess each client's needs to determine the type and extent of support needed, provide and/or identify sources of such support, and make appropriate referrals. Compile data on c lients and other associated information for the purpose of reports to supervisors as well as quality assurance. Communicate with other sources involved with the juvenile such as teachers, police departments, and other agencies.
Attend trainings and other informational meetings to maintain a knowledge base of resources, providers of service, and other supportive entities that benefit juveniles and their families. Successful completing of basic orientation training of Mental Health/Intellectual Disabilities and Juvenile Justice systems will be mandatory.
Occasionally work non-traditional hours with the designated Juvenile Probation Officer for curfew checks and meetings related to the juvenile's probation conditions, or in the event of mental health crises that require the caseworker's assistance in getting the individual into an appropriate treatment setting.
Perform any other duties as assigned by the employee's immediate supervisor, Administrator, Chief of Juvenile Probation and/or their designee.
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Full-time employment
Work hours are 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday-Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
On occasion, caseworkers may need to work non-traditional hours for curfew checks, meetings related to the juvenile's probation conditions, or in the event of an emergency.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
Six months of experience as a County Caseworker 1;or
Successful completion of the County Social Casework Intern program;or
A bachelor's degree with a social welfare major;or
A bachelor's degree which includes or is supplemented by 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences and one year of professional social casework experience in a public or private social service agency;or
Any equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences.
Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within two months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.

Hiring preference for this vacancy will be given to candidates who live within Berks, Bucks, Carbon, Lehigh, Monroe, Montgomery, Northampton, and Schuylkill counties.
