THE POSITION

Are you experienced and skilled in the electrical field and would enjoy teaching to help incarcerated individuals learn the electrical trade? The Department of Corrections (DOC), State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Fayette is seeking a highly motivated electrician to join our instruction team as a Corrections Electrical Trade Instructor. This position allows you to help the DOC in our mission to reduce criminal behavior by providing individualized treatment and education to inmates. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Corrections Electrical Trade Instructor for the Department of Corrections, you are responsible for the instruction of inmates in the practices, methods, and procedures of the electrical trade at a journeyman level through demonstration, explanation, and close supervision during training and work assignments.

You instruct inmates both through textbook and hands on training on the methods and procedures of repair and new construction of both low and high voltage circuitry. This includes lighting, power outlets, conduit, underground circuits, switch boxes, breaker panels, switchgear, transformers, motors, electrical appliances, and generators. Also, you are responsible for planning and assigning work to inmates receiving electrical trade instruction. You must be able to assist inmates at all levels of training through communication and hands on demonstration. In addition, you are responsible for reviewing and inspecting work in progress, and upon completion for adherence to standards of the electrical trade.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40-hour work week

  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.

  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.

  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. Please Note: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $48,425 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Five years of experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical wiring, fixtures, and equipment used in buildings ; or

  • Completion of an approved apprenticeship in the electrical trade ; or

  • An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year of journey level work in the electrical trade.
