THE POSITION

Broaden your clerical expertise and use your bilingual communication skills to become a Clerical Assistant 2 for the Lackawanna County Assistance Office (CAO)! The CAO offers income maintenance assistance and other services to the citizens of Pennsylvania who are in need. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Clerical Assistant 2, you will help the Lackawanna CAO with a variety of clerical duties. Your work will enhance staff members’ ability to provide quality services to the citizens of Pennsylvania. As the first point of contact for the office, your ability to communicate in both English and Spanish will ensure that the clients who receive assistance will have the best information. The clerical assistant inputs information and verifies that the information is correct. You will also receive applications for the various income maintenance programs provided by the Department of Human Services. Additional duties include scanning and filing documents and processing mail.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment

  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.

  • You may have to work overtime as needed.

  • You may have to travel as needed.

  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

  • WORK CONDITIONS: Assigned duties are performed in a controlled office environment. In counties with District Offices, employees may be reassigned to different work sites due to operational needs. Reassignments will be made in compliance with contract language.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Six months as a Clerical Assistant 1 (commonwealth title); or

  • Graduation from high school; or

  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

    Other Requirements:

  • This position requires the selected candidate to be able to read, write, and speak in Spanish. You may be contacted for a Spanish speaking proficiency evaluation conducted by the Bureau of Talent Acquisition, PA Office of Administration. If contacted, you must pass the speaking evaluation in order to be deemed eligible for this position. Your proficiency in reading and writing in Spanish must be demonstrated during the probationary period to achieve regular status in the position.
