1 - First Shift

Are you the type of person who excels in supporting advanced manufacturing processes related to welding? Do you love driving welding-related improvement projects? In this role you will support all aspects of weld engineering at Vermeer from initial product design through manufacturing and even field service. We're looking for a subject matter expert in welding processes, welding robotics, weldment design, metallurgy, weld failure analysis, and non destructive testing. What You'll Do

  1. Work with product design engineering teams on new and existing products to optimize weldment design. This will include, but is not limited to: weld joint design, design for automation, fatigue life analysis, design for manufacturability, weld distortion analysis, and welding related failure analysis.

  2. Identify, test, and recommend manufacturing materials and processes that are new to Vermeer (not limited to welding).

  3. Work with production to reduce waste and improve quality and productivity in welding through optimizing cell layout, implementing lean principles, maximizing equipment utilization, and justifying automation. Identify areas of improved efficiency with right sized automation and act as a resource on proper utilization of automation.

  4. Develop and maintain Vermeer welding standards, welding procedures, welding design guidelines, and welding-related standard work.

  5. Ensure compliance with OSHA requirements on welding Fume control.

  6. Perform and interpret results of various non-destructive testing (NDT) methods.

What We're Looking For

  • 4-year college degree in Welding, Materials Joining, Manufacturing or Metallurgical Engineering with a minimum of 2 years' related experience.

  • Or other 2 or 4-year college degree with a minimum of 7 years' related experience.

  • Certified Welding Inspector, Certified Welding Supervisor, and Certified Welding Engineer with the American Welding Society and/or equivalent preferred.

  • Knowledge in the areas of welding processes (i.e. GMAW, FCAW, SAW, and SMAW), welding consumables, weld robotics, welding metallurgy, weld distortion, weld fatigue, and failure analysis.

  • Knowledge of robotic programming, CAD, technical drawing, and schematic reading.

  • Skill in writing and interpreting welding standards, applying quality acceptance criteria, implementing a weld quality program, and training others on these topics.

  • Skill in root cause analysis in welded product design and manufacturing.

Travel

Occasional travel is expected of this position.

Work Location

ONSITE: A team member's day-to-day work is best done on a Vermeer campus. If work content can be occasionally completed at an offsite location, discuss potential arrangements with your manager.
