1 - First Shift

The Engineer II - Quality leads quality execution for tactical and strategic activities. This position ensures controls and preventative actions are executed and serves as a lead investigator, or a problem-solving coach, for quality issues and failures. This role executes quality management processes and activities including Control Plan development, PPAP approvals, Control Plan monitoring, Statistical Process Control, and leads quality improvement teams and projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Exhibit the Vermeer characteristics of caring culture, demonstrating agility, customer focused and stewardship while modeling the associated behaviors.

  2. Lead root cause analysis and problem-solving activities. Review and analyze internal and external quality performance and communicate trends and recommendations to manufacturing leadership.

    1. Lead efforts to reduce quality issues and defects and drive implementation of short- and long-term solutions.

    2. Develop, l ead, execute and audit control plans and manufacturing processes for execution, compliance, and effectiveness. Partner with manufacturing engineering to implement mistake-proofing and process improvements.

    3. Collaborate with suppliers to drive root cause problem solving and verify sustainable quality improvements.

    4. Manage process capability studies and partner with process engineering on continuous improvement activities.

    5. Manage Hold-for-Disposition, Red Tag and Ship Hold processes.

    6. Lead quality improvement projects and teams .

Education and/or Experience

  • 4-year college degree with a major in Mechanical, Industrial, Agriculture or Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 2 years’ related experience.

  • Or other 2 or 4-year college degree with a minimum of 7 years’ related experience.

  • Manufacturing Engineering, Quality Engineering, and/or auditing experience preferred.

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to operate a variety of assembly tools and measurement devices.

  • Ability to interpret drawings and models, basic understanding of GD&T.

  • Ability to apply statistical tools, utilize statistical analysis software, and execute statistical quality control techniques.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite, CAD / SolidWorks, and other software.

  • Understanding of problem-solving tools and processes (8D, 5-why, DMAIC).

  • Understanding of lean manufacturing / lean six-sigma.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to collaborate with internal/external stakeholders.

  • Ability to lead and facilitate teams to address quality issues and improve quality processes.

  • Ability to prioritize, multitask, and meet deadlines.

  • Ability to influence others without formal authority.

Certificates, Licenses, Registration

American Society for Quality certification preferred.

Travel

Up to 15% domestic and/or international travel by car or plane may be required.

Work Location

ONSITE: A team member’s day-to-day work is best done on a Vermeer campus. If work content can be occasionally completed at an offsite location, discuss potential arrangements with your manager.
