We are looking for an experienced and self-motivated individual to fill the position of Lab Analyst III / Supervisor within our Chemical Manufacturing Plant located in Pedricktown, NJ.

Essential Duties

  • This position is responsible for planning and conducting the laboratory procedures for environmental, product, and process analysis in compliance with federal and corporate guidelines.
  • Maintains protection of the environment, and the health and safety of our employees, customers, and the communities in which we operate and/or transport our products, as our highest priority.
  • Supports the safety process systems through participation in planned inspections, job observations, near miss reporting, incident investigation, area audits, and other programs as required.
  • Manages the analysis and certification process for shipment of all finished products from the Pedricktown facility.  Ensures that the facility is furnished with chemical analysis for process control decisions and technical studies in a timely, accurate, low-cost manner.
  • Approves methods of analysis for site products, raw materials, and process intermediates.
  • Participates in daily operations meetings to communicate information related to safety, environmental compliance, quality, cost consciousness, reliability, and operations.
  • Maintains laboratory skills, training, and qualification standards related to the procedures and processes required to support a knowledgeable and effective work force.
  • Performs all analyses as defined in the Laboratory Procedures Manuals and Quality manuals.
  • Participates with other Lab Analysts in troubleshooting problems with procedures and equipment.
  • Responsible for conducting quality control and environmental lab sampling, as well as verifying the accuracy of field operations lab sampling results.
  • Supports ISO system and quality through statistical verification of the operability and accuracy of instruments.
  • Performs the necessary duties to maintain housekeeping in the laboratory.
  • Initiates corrective action for process, safety, or environmental deficiencies.
  • Understands the use and location of emergency equipment in the laboratory and sampling locations.
  • Understands the emergency procedures as outlined in the Emergency Response Plan and related laboratory procedures.
  • Conducts each operation in accordance with the Chemical Hygiene Plan.
  • Knows the types of personal protective equipment available and when and where to use it.
  • Avoids consuming food or beverages in areas where chemicals are stored.
  • Ensures that all samples and chemicals are properly labeled.
  • Supports and performs the laboratory service function to include storage of product samples, packaging and shipping samples, stockroom services to the laboratory and plant, and sampling services along with maintenance of lab instruments and equipment.
  • Ensures a high level of internal and external customer service.  Reports and follows up on customer issues and complaints, as appropriate.
  • Provides attention to detail, and dedication to work, in order to ensure reliability of the work site as well as a high-quality product.
  • Supports and fulfills the requirements of the plant’s ISO Quality System.
  • Provide analysis to assure wastewater and storm water regulatory compliance. Issue monthly DMRs, periodic biomonitoring reports, annual DMR QA/QC reports.  Assist with TPDES permit maintenance, and periodic agency inspections.
  •  Provides supervisory oversight of Lab Analyst personnel, including planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, budget formulation, cost controls, and problem resolution.
  • Ensures effective operation of all laboratory equipment, procedures, processes, and systems.
  • Ensures lab personnel maintain lab training and certifications
  • Identifies and leads lab improvement projects in regard to sampling, testing, and assists with special projects as requested.
  • Maintain and foster excellence as a representative of OCC in the workplace, within the industry, in customer relationships, and within the overall community.
  • Serve as the site liaison to other OCC plant labs, the technical service lab, customer service, and the R&D group. Resolve customer analytical service requests, evaluate customer methods of analysis, and provide on-site customer assistance as appropriate. Assist in the evaluation and development of Plant product specifications.
  • Can fill in for other lab analysts as necessary to ensure adequate plant support
  • Completes any additional responsibilities assigned by Plant Management.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications 

  • B.S. Chemistry and one year in an Industrial Analytical Lab setting.
  • Strong analytical/problem solving skills
  • High proficiency in Microsoft applications (such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to read, write and speak in English
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays and respond to callouts on a non-routine basis
  • Must be able to lift 40 lbs., climb ladders and stairs.  Walking, bending, stooping is required.  Must be able to wear personal protective equipment including the use of a respirator.  Must be able to respond to visual and audible alarms.
