Mississippi Blood Services Technical Lab Assistant / Flowood in Pearl, Mississippi

This Full Time Position is for a Technical Lab Assistant with a blood services agency location in Flowood, MS. Hours: Monday to Friday  3:00 PM - Friday 11:30 PM and every other weekend.

Duties and Responsibilities include: Must be detail-oriented and organized with all paperwork; Prepare platelet samples for shipping and BacT testing; Process normal BacT results; Perform and document all phases of batch release including reconciliation and quarantine of components; Assist in the preparation of all components, including special components; Perform basic laboratory computer functions; Organize, identify and label FFP and other blood components with complete accuracy; Convert and re-label salvage plasma products with complete accuracy; Assist with all aspects of shipping recovered plasma to commercial vendors; Verify and document all phases of the discard/destruction of unacceptable components; Perform and document all phases of quality control and maintenance to comply with internal and external agency specifications; Reconcile all blood products daily; Complete any work remaining from previous shift; Assist in teaching student or student groups in routine production procedures; Adhere to Employer Exposure Control Plan; Maintain work area in a safe and clean manner; Promote his/her continuing education as deemed necessary; Gain/maintain competency in all required lab procedures.

Requirements and Qualifications include: High School Diploma or equivalent; Stable work history, previous experience or training desirable; Perform assigned duties within established guidelines and procedures by the Book, with a strong attention to detail to accomplish a consistent, error-free product; Remain patient and conscientious while performing assigned tasks; checking and double-checking as needed to ensure accurate results; Interact with customers in a pleasant and helpful manner, with focus on completing the task on time and error-free; Adapts quickly and effectively to changes in work environment; Communicates needed information in a timely manner to appropriate parties; Consistently provides timely and accurate service to our donors and customers; Gathers and analyzes information skillfully; Consistently meets productivity standards with accurate, high quality work; Works collaboratively with others toward shared goals; Accepts responsibility for positive and negative outcomes; Treats others with courtesy, honesty and respect; Maintains a positive, can-do attitude; Using effective verbal and written communication; Dependably works required hours and completes required assignments; Takes personal responsibility for ensuring work gets done with minimal direction; Represents our organization positively in the workplace and the community; Organizational skills to provide a productive work flow; Ability to work independently on assigned tasks, performing procedures by the book; Ability to work effectively with others toward a common goal; Ability to meet flexible working schedule, as required to meet patient needs.
