Mississippi Employer SERVICE TECHNICIAN-RENTS (NTZ) in Pearl, Mississippi

We are seeking an experienced Diesel Service Technician at our rental services location in Natchez. We offer excellent pay, rock-solid benefits, specialized technical training, and a standard five-day work schedule with occasional after hours and weekend hours.

The Service Technician-Rents is responsible for the diagnosis, repair, reconditioning, overhaul and maintenance of the store's expansive inventory of construction equipment which includes Caterpillar and ancillary earth and material moving (dozers, backhoes, excavators, skid steers, fork trucks), aerial (lifts), and site support machines (generators, air compressors, jackhammers, cutting saws), as well as some customer heavy equipment and components.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Remove, disassemble, assemble, and install components and parts, including but not limited to: powertrain, hydraulic, electrical AC/DC, gasoline/diesel/propane systems, compressors and air tools, and engines (2 and 4 stroke, gas and diesel) in accordance with all prescribed quality and safety standards.
  • Identify the problem and cause of failure through logical troubleshooting steps.
  • Clean, repair, recondition, and maintain equipment and components.
  • Test, measure, and adjust engine and machine systems and components.
  • Research and determine reusability of parts in accordance with published manufacturer guidelines.
  • Coordinate the ordering of replacement parts with supervisor.
  • Prepare, inspect and test operate machines prior to delivery.
  • Prepare and submit detailed, complete and legible service reports of all inspection and repairs performed using prescribed forms and procedures in a timely manner.
  • Keep supervisor regularly apprised of status of assigned repair jobs and assist in addressing customer questions and concerns thoroughly and completely.

Job Requirements:

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required Diesel engine, construction equipment and/or truck engine training and certifications through accredited technical schools or relevant military experience preferred.
  • Minimum 2 to 3 years previous hands-on work experience as a diesel technician repairing Caterpillar or competitor heavy equipment or applicable diagnostic and troubleshooting experience as a technician in an automotive or truck engine repair shop.
  • Ability to read and comprehend moderately difficult computer-based schematics, specifications, service and parts literature, technical bulletins, safety manuals, and other related publications.
  • Solid mechanical systems knowledge of diesel engines/engine failures, electrical and hydraulic systems.
  • Proficient in the use of mechanical test equipment.
  • Basic welding/torch cutting skills.
  • Ability to safely use material handling equipment and tooling and wear company required PPE (protective eyewear, gloves, harnesses, footwear) during a shift assignment that could last between 8 and 12 hours.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Good problem solving skills, detail oriented, and ability to work with a high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to perform duties with a sense of urgency, exceeding customer expectations.
  • Ability to work independently in a dynamic fast paced service environment.
  • Ability to work standard five-day work schedule, including daily overtime, and occasional weekend hours as necessary.

Other Job Requirements:

•Possess a complete set of basic mechanic hand tools including drives, sockets, and wrenches.
