Summary

The Automation Engineer II exists to support efficient operation of all process automation in the plant. This includes integration and troubleshooting of all electrical and instrumentation in the plant. The individual in this position will be required to fully understand the purpose and operation of the electrical, instrumentation, and controls throughout the plant and have the ability to make decisions based on sound judgment when a situation dictates

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintains necessary level of communication with team members and other support groups and does so in a participative management style, conducive with operational goals.

  • Ensures self-compliance with company policies and plant procedures

  • Works within safety rules and regulations in actively avoiding injury to self and others

  • Assists in developing plans, control sequences, and programs in selecting control equipment for capital and other projects.

  • Assists with training other plant personnel.

  • Ensures that additional accountabilities required by management are handled in a manner necessary to meet operational standards.

  • Supports company standards for quality, food safety, sanitation and GMPs.

  • Responsible for installation, operation and troubleshooting of all central process automation equipment including, but not limited to, computers, programmable controllers and peripheral electrical equipment

  • Performs and ensures reliable programming of PLC’s, SCADA and Human Machine Interfaces (HMI)

  • Maintains records and back-up documentation for FLC software programs

  • Is responsible for supporting Food Safety and Product Quality programs

  • Develop and maintain plant electrical, instrumentation, and control engineering standards with input from plant Electrical and Instrumental and Maintenance team

  • Responsible for scope, scheduling, cost of Electrical and Instrumentation and Controls portions of projects

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Typical Education

Bachelor's Degree (B.A. or B.S.) from 4 year college or university

Relevant Experience

  • Four plus years related experience and/or training. Combination of education and experience will be considered

  • Knowledge of and ability to work with electronic equipment such as PLCs and accompanying ladder logic, VFDs, microprocessors, circuit boards, chips, pressure switches and transducers, temperature, level and other switches and I/P controls.

  • Knowledge of manufacturing communication and bus network technologies and protocols such as HART, Ethernet, As-I, DeviceNet, and Foundation Fieldbus

  • Knowledge of activities, tasks and practices and deliverables associated with writing and modifying programs that comprise an application system.

  • Knowledge of approaches and tools for application of statistical methods to identify and control causes of variations in the manufacturing process.

  • Knowledge of approaches, tools and techniques for anticipating, recognizing, and resolving technical (hardware, software, application or operational) problems
