Medical Technologist positions available at Labette County Medical Center. Duties: The Medical Technologist will assist in diagnosis & treatment of diseases by performing laboratory tests following established standards and practices. Using specialized scientific technical knowledge, perform pre-analytic, analytic, and post analytic phases of laboratory testing. Critically evaluate specimens & correlate all lab results to the clinical picture of each individual patient, including: preparing the patient for lab testing, accurately labeling, handling, preserving, processing, transporting, and storing specimens. Monitor tests, quality control, & procedures to ensure accuracy of lab tests. Perform complex chemical, biological, hematological, immunologic, microscopic, and bacteriological tests, including microscopic examinations of bodily fluids such as blood, urine, spinal fluid, to identify abnormalities. Make cultures of body fluid and tissue samples, to determine the presence of bacteria, fungi, parasites, or other microorganisms. Use laboratory equipment to locate microorganisms. Evaluate, test, & match blood for transfusions, & perform blood counts. Test for drug levels in the blood. Analyze samples for chemical content or a chemical reaction & determine concentration of compounds such as blood glucose and cholesterol levels. Evaluate test results, analyze laboratory findings, develop & modify procedures; establish & monitor programs to ensure the accuracy of tests and results. Prepare samples for analysis & for tests by cultivating, isolating, & identifying microorganisms for analysis.
