Direct Support Professional

Position summary

Consistently provide client with assistance and encouragement to live successfully and independently within the community

Summary of essential position functions

Consistently ensure client success and wellbeing

Staff will be responsible for clients personal safety both in the home and on outings

Staff will model and foster strong working relationship with client and coworkers

Staff will adhere to all agency policies and procedures as written and directed

Staff will demonstrate confidence in appropriate implementation of clients Behavior Support Plan

Staff will oversee all personal hygiene tasks (example; bathing, brushing teeth, shaving, toileting, laundry, etc.) per shift to ensure client is appropriately groomed and dressed

Staff will provide appropriate medication administration following agency Medication Administration Training Protocol, as well as all other Medical Protocol (example; Universal Precautions, Fall Policy, CPR/1st Aid, Seizure Protocol)

Staff will assist the client in preparing health-conscious meals

Assist client(s) with completing daily household responsibilities

Ensure organization, maintenance, and cleanliness of clients home

Staff will assist client with appropriate and required amount of Day services during each shift

Assist client with spending and retain all client receipts

Staff will complete all documentation( example; behavior tracking chart, sleep chart, service log, incident reports, med count sheet, MAR, physician visit sheet, menu chart, objectives, time sheet, mileage sheet, etc.) completely and accurately as required, PER SHIFT

Effectively and appropriately communicate pertinent information regarding client success and wellbeing by following proper chain of command

Conduct and document monthly Fire and Weather Drills

Staff members will remain engaged with client during entire shift and refrain from using personal cell phones for personal use while working (example; Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, SnapChat, personal texts/phone conversations). In the instance cell phone communication is necessary between staff and supervisor, such communication will be documented

Other duties as assigned related to assigned location

Minimum requirements

Direct care experience, high school diploma or equivalent, valid Kansas Drivers License and proof of current automobile insurance

Abilities required

A Direct Care Professional must display compassion and understanding in the workplace. Punctuality and dependability are absolute required abilities. A Direct Support Professional must also demonstrate positive attitude, flexibility in schedule and be a team player. Each staff member will be expected to adhere to a strong ethical standard.
