This position performs scheduled maintenance, service and repairs, including welding, of heavy equipment and small engines. The Mechanic may be required to travel locally, using a company vehicle, to make on-site repairs at one or more of the market’s facilities.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain, service, and repair equipment and small engines by using mechanic and welding skill and knowledge, and tools of the trade. This includes the following but not limited to: electrical systems, engine tune-ups and diagnosis, fluid levels and lubricants, brakes, steering components, shocks, struts, alternators, generators, starters, water and fuel pumps, carburetors, steering mechanisms, and mufflers and clamps.

  • Perform welding as needed to maintain and repair equipment.

  • Operate equipment to evaluate repairs performed, and make adjustments as needed.

  • Steam clean and or wash equipment and tools to ensure safety and ready for use.

  • Communicate with Supervisors regarding repair/maintenance timeline.

  • Work according to safety standards set by the Company, state, and federal regulations. Report unsafe equipment, tools, machines, and practices to management.

  • Immediately notify management of any significant issues related to repairs.

  • Travel locally using company vehicle to make repairs when needed.

MINIMUM Requirements

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent

License

  • Valid state driver’s license in good standing

Experience

  • 3 years of mechanic experience specifically with heavy equipment and small engines

  • Welding experience preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated mechanical and technical aptitude

  • Welding skills

  • Ability to communicate effectively with others, oral and written

  • Ability to drive to various locations locally to accommodate emergency repairs

  • Ability to work with a sense of urgency

Work Environment

  • Work indoors and outdoors during all seasons and weather conditions

  • Moderate odors, dust, odor, pollen or fumes may cause discomfort and/or irritation to eyes or respiratory passages

  • Loud noise from equipment/machines is at a level where ear protection is recommended

Work Postures

  • Frequent, continuous periods of time standing, up 8 hours per day

  • Climbing stairs to access buildings frequently

Physical Demands

  • Physical effort requiring manual dexterity is required

  • Kneeling, stooping and lifting

  • Carrying, lifting or pushing materials up to 100 pounds

Work Hours

  • May require occasional overtime and outside of scheduled work hours to make repairs

  • Travel up to 50% locally using company vehicle
