Description

The Engineering Science Division (ESD) of Applied Research Associates (ARA), Inc. is seeking a full-time Staff Electrical Engineer to work in Panama City, Florida. The ideal candidate will provide support to ESD and the US Army Construction Engineering Research Laboratory (CERL). This position is located in Panama City, Florida, but remote work is possible for the right candidate.

As a Staff Electrical Engineer, you will:

  • Support novel research and development efforts, such as evaluating diesel engine locomotives as an electricity generation source for emergency backup power.

  • Design an electrical distribution system that ties into the main power grid.

  • Perform energy auditing for DoD installations using 15-minute interval data. Use commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) technology that uses utility meter data, weather data, and property data to develop energy conservation measures. Analyze energy and cost savings.

  • Design DoD installation distribution system models using power systems modeling software. Manage and standardize data file formats.

  • Support the evaluation of microgrid designs developed by commercial entities. Review one-line diagrams and assess feasibility. Evaluate cost reasonableness.

  • Work with other engineers to develop processing applications that import utility data, transform it, and deliver it to an Army meter data management system.

  • Support other electrical, mechanical, and chemical engineers with prototype development. Provide expertise on electrical circuit design and safety during prototype design and fabrication.

Staff Electrical Engineer Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, with a minimum of 5 to 7 years of related experience, or a master's degree with a minimum of 3 to 5 years of related experience in a technical environment.

  • Proficiency in engineering CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks) and all Microsoft Office Suite Products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Project, SharePoint).

  • Ability to travel to various military installations.

Preferred Experience:

  • Electrical system conceptual design and component specification

  • Coordinating with multiple project points of contact (POCs) and attending, hosting, and coordinating virtual meetings

  • Power grid layout and assessment for installations comprised of numerous building types

  • Coordinating with utilities and reading and analyzing utility data

  • Prior use of power modeling software

  • Knowledge of electricity financial analysis

  • Ability to obtain a DoD Security Clearance
